Have now eventually got a property and looking fwd to getting there? but now have been told by the NEW solicitor that we have to pay a ONE OFF insurance policy of 4000 euros? Is this normal? as I  had finances to suit previously, and last minute this comes up?? Is this right or wrong? would really appreciate a very speedy response as completion is 7 days away!!

It sounds like you are being asked to pay insurance to cover the mortgage as many resident mortgages do.This is often implemented on high LTV mortgages.

You need to clarify exactly what this insurance is for checking your breakdown of costs from your solicitor.

well we're paying 25% min! so not sure where half the charges come from anyway? seems they tax on tax??

and this was only a last minute thing that came up when we changed from one solicitor to another in the same company?? It's quite a BIG last minute thing though??

Your solicitor has to by law supply yoiu with a complete and comprehensive breakdown of all associated costs of your purchase,it should be listed on there and should state exactly what it is for.

If you have an issue with it purely delay completion untill it is explained........

Just to make it clear also, we are not resident in Spain as yet! waiting a couple of years for that, but just looking to go there for holidays, and family holidays at the momento pretty hard to justify a "One Off" insurance policy with no info on what it covers etc? would any brit hand over £3000 for a "one off" insurance policy?????because they thought they had to???

Thats what i am trying to say............

There is no reason to "hand over" anything regardless of Nationality, request your breakdown and it will all become apparent...

It may be life insurance for the mortgage,it may be security insurance.

They wont expect you to pay anything without understanding why and what you are paying for.

Surely all expenses were explained and understood before you signed?
