Has anyone done their own removals?

Hello
I know this is a subject that has been covered probably loads of times, but, we are seriously thinking of hiring a large Van and taking our own furniture to Spain. We are taking most of what we have as none of it that old althoug no electrical items (cooker, fridge w/machine etc.) and no wardrobes.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else did the same and if they would recommend it. It seems very expensive to get the Removal Firms in, plus then you would be in charge of your own stuff etc.
Is it worth it?

Hello,
When we purchased our property in Spain my husband, his father and brother drove our furniture down to Guardamar del Segura. They took the boat from Portsmouth to France and drove through France down to Spain it took them about 19 hours and they all shared the driving. They have all said they would not want to do that again in a transit but if they had they would suggest goint to Bilbao. Hope this helps

Hi there, we're moving over in June and I have done loads of research on how I'm getting there, I was first going to use a one way van hire, they do transits and Lutons and you have to drop it off near Guardamar. I have now decided to use a removal service. I got a quote for £875 for 10 cubic metres. The one way van drive would have cost me a bit more plus all the hassle of the actual drive. If you want to know which company I'm using I'll post it later (at work at the mo!). Hope this helps

Hi thanks! We were thinking about something like a Volkswagen Crafter which is quite big and would hopefully take everything (clothes, the lot). Because we are taking quite a bit I thought it may work out cheaper than a removal firm. There is the issue of the one-way drive, or having to bring the Van back.
I'm not sure if it is possible to get a one-way from Scotland although I haven't looked into it yet. Margaretx

Hi Troy
I live just over the mountain from where you will be in Albatera! 4 years ago we moved ourselves we hired a 7 tonne lorry from Spain forma company calles Demetrio and then drove it to UK filled it up and bought it back it meant we could bring all we needed and we brought everything to be honest dont through anythign away unless you are sure you will never need it, Spain is not as cheap a place to replace things as it once was. So bring it all!!
Good luck
Sharon
