I know it's like asking 'how long is a piece of string' but are there any ideas about how long this transport strike is likely to continue??
I am well aware they have a good case, however the result will surely be mass price increases for all of us, one way or another.
It is quite frightening to walk into a supermarket and see....................nothing, at least, nothing fresh and soon the non perishable goods shelves will become empty too.
So we will have no food etc etc etc and no fuel for cars and a lack of most of the basic comodities which arrive here by road.
Where will it end?

Dont worry. Its due to end tomorrow - its was only for 4 days!
Newspapers in teh shops yesterday, fuel delivered to the BP station in mijas today and while a shortage of fruit veg and meat, plenty of proper food like cakes and chocolate around!
might take a few days to get back to total normality though!

Good News then
I was going to ask how the full full thing at the car rental would work if you couldn't top up.
How's the weather there? Yahoo weather forecasts hot for the next week.
Can't wait!!

As far as i am aware the strike is indefinate and has not been called off yet. the Uk strike is only for 4 days due to start today and is only for shell.
At the moment there appears to be no food (well proper essential food) on the shelves of the supermarkets that i know of in Vera Playa and out in rural areas. there may be in some supermarkets that i do not go to!
I know there is some fuel (or there was last nite) in some of the stations around this area but dont know the names.
Some car rental companies at Almeria were telling their clients to phone them for updates but a full tank could not be guaranteed as of the day before yesterday (I have visitors coming over and they contacted there company and that is what they were told) This message was last edited by lampy on 6/13/2008.

This from Reuters (Spain) yesterday:
"The government said deliveries of food and other goods were returning to normal on Thursday after an agreement with most of the strikers on Wednesday although food distribution centers reported shortages and car factories remained at a standstill."
"The government, re-elected in March, tempted most truckers back to work with promises of tax breaks on Wednesday but has refused to accede to demands for minimum haulage charges."
"Tax breaks were also offered by Portugal, which also negotiated an end to a truck strike on Wednesday."
"However the scene at Madrid's main food market, Mercamadrid, which supplies the capital's shops and supermarkets, was far from normal on Thursday as the number of deliveries was reduced to a trickle because non-striking truckers were still being stopped by picketers."

Main problem has been panic buying. I passed a petrol station this morning in san pedro and it was normal service. The pertol tanker guys werent on strike, it was the consumers stocking up that spiked the loss and the tanker guys being held up by truckers
Shops still have plenty of tinned and preserved food, its the fresh that suffered - except local so local markets where its come straight from the farms are doing well - and they are daily!
Bear in mind this is a socialist governement and as such will cave in to every little demand within a couple of hours!

As it stands the strike is still going on but agreements have been signed by 80% of truckers unions, only 2 haven´t. However, as I work in a logistics company, I am aware that a great number of comapnies that should technically be back working are not because they are too nervous after a number of assaults on truckers choosing to go back to work. The border with France is open and some lorries are getting through but I don´t think it´s at all back to normal as yet, despite what the government says.
