Hi keighty,
And welcome to the forum.
We are a happy bunch here. Whatever you want know about Spain, you've come to the right place. Likewise, whatever you know and want to share, we are happy to listen to and learn from.

We live in the UK at the mo!
However we are moving to Spain in the next few months.
We will be moving to Duquesa, which is on the Costa Del Sol, between Gibraltar and Marbella, both of which are about 20 mins by car in either direction.
I'm an IT Guru
Na! Only kidding, I'm an IT Consultant specialising in Internet/Intranet Security and Data recovery, also hardware diagnostic and repair.

Basically I'm hoping to do the same, however to begin with a job, is a job, is a job.
Who knows, might even end up with my own IT company (fingers crossed) offering the same services in addition to maintenance contracts, bespoke software design and implementation, training, etc.
What sort of employment are you looking for?
Mijas is a nice area, however the area is to 'British' for us, and a bit over developed, but each to their own.

Lynne and I lived in Sidemore next door to the Duke of York for about 12 years, we now live in the Campo on the hill side just out side Albatera. Albatera is about 30 minutes from the coast and Alicante airport. If you look on a map of the Costa Blanca, we are directly inland from Guardamar just south of Alicante.
Nice quite area, close to but just far enough away from the crowded areas around the coast. Lovely views on the mountains.

I lived in the first house on the right as you enter York road by the Duke, there are two identical together, the other house is owned by Dave the teacher.
Not heard of you, mind you, I spent most of my time working abroad, that's how I managed to retire early and move over here.
I see you are looking for properties in or around Mijas. South Costa Blanca is a good area as well. I know a very good and thoughtful agent if you need one for my area.
Did you say you work for Sky, UK tv is big business our here in Spain, it costs a fortune to get english tv if you don't know what your are doing. I have just installed a dish and kit myself, so I don't have a problem with it.
Setting up a cafe in Spain is of course an option, but do your homework well first, we have friends who have a successful cafe/bar in Albatera, but both work very hard and get little rest. With all the UK tv outfits out here, you should be able to find work.
One thing you do need to consider is, salaries are much lower here than the UK.

Martin,
Do you know Richard who lives in the first house as you enter York road, over from the Duke. If you do, next time you go past, if he is outside as he usualy is, give him regards from Kev & Lynne. Thanks.

Only seen ice cream vans in weekend markets, and mainly markets frequented by expats, sorry don't know anything about selling the stuff from vans. To be honest, don't think you will make your fortune selling ice cream.
The Sky option does look like the best one at present, try searching the web for uk tv installers in the area that you are intending to live, then email them to see if there are any jobs going. The language could be a problem if you are not fluent in Spanish, but most expats here will either speak english or know some english and they will buy from the uk tv companies.
