We too purchased euros through HIFX and got a rate of 1.5039. We then took all the relevant paper work to our local branch of Halifax who then at a cost of £25 electronically transferred the sum from that account into our HIFX account who then transferred it on to our new Halifax account in Spain. We checked our Spanish account on line and found everything present and correct. If you keep an annual average balance of 600 euros', there are no bank charges' either. We also found it convenient that we were able to open the Spanish account through our local branch. Good luck all. Carol and Michael. This message was last edited by mikaroldam on 2/10/2007.

You can also send HIFX a cheque instead of electronic transfer. They will then send to Spain without making a charge. Just takes a couple of days longer. I have found them to be really good to deal with!.
