Hi to you all...have been reading the forums for a while....now I need some help. We have lived in Pueblo del Rio, on the Rio Real Golf Course in Marbella for 5 months of the year since 2004. We have Telefonica Broadband and it works well.....but costs too much! The other problem is that there arne't any more lines so no one else can get it. I am researching other ways....like bouncing it off aerials. If we could do this we could get rid of the landlines and use Skype. saving us 80 Euros a month. Any suggestions??

Do you have any permanent neighbours that have broadband? Do they have a wireless router? You could ask them for access to their system and pay a couple of Euros a day for the connection. Are there any wi- fi systems broadcasting in your locality you can get access to? The only other options are the dongles (have just been given some details of the Vodafone PAYG which look interesting although expensive. 60€ for 1GB would give you a lot of calls on Skype.).

This is the information I was given:
PAYG data prices were (I can't find current info on hopeless Vodafone site) -
€20 - 25MB (MUCH to small, not worth it)
€40 - 200MB
€60 - 1GB - I would go for this. I think the data has to be used within 6 months so I guess this OK.
You just plug the modem into the USB port and away you do. I am just investigating new Vodafone software that you install on your PC to give you better info (data used etc).
This is quite useful Vodafone ES site in English -
For info I am attaching new manual for your prepaid Vodafone ES mobile phone.

Hi Rosie.
you can now get Skype mobile and you don't need a computer. Phones from mobile operator 3 and you can call and instant message Skype-to-Skype from your mobile – free. Phones are available on Pay As You Go
cheers Derek

http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/?cm_sp=hw|3_skypephone-_-cordlessphones|sidebar-_-get_the_3_skypephone_lnk|en-gb|200x150
becomes
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/?cm_sp=hw|3_skypephone-_-cordlessphones|sidebar-_-get_the_3_skypephone_lnk|en-gb|200x150
if you click your space bar, Derek, otherwise others will need to put it into their browser to get to page & I doubt if they would know or bother.
Or the way I do it is SKYPE PHONE to save space. You just copy link >> http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/?cm_sp=hw|3_skypephone-_-cordlessphones|sidebar-_-get_the_3_skypephone_lnk|en-gb|200x150 but not paste it. Click the figure 8 on its side with the globe on top of it above (2nd from right) & it shows a box with URL against a long box, second one. Paste in there & it highlights the text you have typed for link such as SKYPE PHONE I typed. Others can just click that to get directly to webpage.
Good innit ?

The problem with the Skype mobile is that 3 do not have their own network here so you can't use it. It's great in the UK and Italy but at the moment no use here.
Orange now also do a "Dongle" which I think costs about 15 euro a month so is good value if you are a light user. If you have any nice tall Wi-Fi antenna's near you, you can bodge together a tin can antenna which really does work but you will either need to know the access code for the user or find an open network.
Last opion if there are enough of you to cover costs is satellite internet, yes it costs quite a lot to set up but if you all club together it becomes not too bad.
Cheers!!

"You've got to be carefully taught "as said in South Pacific , it's not something I knew until I was shown, Derek. Couldn't you have just clicked the space bar ?

Hi flog-it.
As I understand it 3g is the next big thing, Vodaphone Spain seem to be pushing the service and the speeds are quite impressive better than fixed ADSL, but as they say seeing is believing, we’ve just completed on a place inland, when I’m over I’ll see what’s about

Yes 3G is now the big thing but it does not mean you get Skype ( I appreciate that you did not say that it does ). I am not so sure about speeds better than fixed ADSL, we get 3MB bandwidth and 10MB is in some places for only about 5 Euro more per month. All I can say is try it for yourself as everyones experience is different.
