Non Resident buying a car in Spain
The Comments |
A friend of mine is hoping to buy a car here in Spain. They are Non residents but own a property here. It has been said you cannot buy a car without a padron, but you can´t get on the padron if your a non resident. I´m sure there must be a way of buying a car. The car they want to buy will be a private sale from a resident neighbour of theirs. Is there anyone who can idvise me on this one please.
Thankyou-

Hi
We didn't need our residency to register in the padron, only proof of where we were living, which in our case was a copy of the rental agreement. We also needed our NIE numbers. We bought a car back in June in Almeria, I'm not sure if the requirements change from province to province.

It's certainly possible to purchase a car without either being on the Padron or claiming to be a resident...I am on my second car now having done just that.
I have an NIE number and a copy of a couple of utility bills relating to the property I am staying in..
My understanding is that providing you have an NIE and can determine your address, then it's just possible to purchase your car.

I went to a dealer to enquire about buying a car and he said no problem even though I don't have residency. All he wanted was a utility bill in my name or the deeds. The problem would be if I wanted to buy it on credit (which I couldn't really understand as I have a mortgage with no residency). He said it would be best to take out a loan in UK and pay cash and the car could be put in my name with no difficulties.

There is no problem buying a car in Spain even if you are a non resident but own a property in Spain. To purchase, you need a copy of your property Escritura (Title deed), your passport, and copy of NIE and of course car insurance before you drive away your purchase. Since the purchase is from a private individual rather than a dealer (who would do all the paperwork as part of the deal) I would advise obtaining the services of a Gestor in order to ensure that all the legal paperwork will be in order. Gestors provide services of a semi-legal nature in Spain and charge lower fees than a solicitor so they are a good option in your case.

I am a non resident EU passport holder who wants to buy a 2nd hand car in spain and then head out of the country towards North Africa.
Is it possible to buy a car being a non residant? Does anyone know if it is possible to get a Carnet de Passages in Spain?
Any advice would be appreciated.
