Can anyone recommend a good resturaunt in Gib?
We ate at a place in the Casements just of to the right of centre.
Can't remember the name but the 'nosh for da dosh' was superb!

Smiley - LOL
The reason I ask is when we are next out my Parents are coming with us. As it's my Mum's (72 and sufferd with ME for years) and Dad's (71 and got bionic knee's) first time abroad (ever) and It's there Anniversary on the 2nd April (also Dad's birthday), Dad wants to treat us to a meal and for some reason he wants to have this meal in Gib.
He's been looking at the Caleta Hotel www.caletahotel.com/restaurants.asp
I'm sure there's a much nicer place somewhere along the CDS between Gib and Marbella (can't go to far afield as Mam still can't travel far - but she making a monumental effort to come to Spain with us)

A few years ago, we had an overnight stay in The Caleta Hotel before an early morning flight back to London.
It was the first week of May and the whole place had a depressing look and a damp feel.
Our room resembled a hospital room and the restaurant food was awful. eg. watered down packet tomato soup with a few herbs sprinkled in it.
We left the restaurant after the main course as our palates had taken enough abuse.
I always shudder when I see the Caleta Hotel in holiday brochures and feel sorry for anyone who believes the description and books a holiday there.

Blimey if he wants a posh meal on Gib I should take a few pot noodles or perhaps sanwiches - go up the rock in the cable car and admire the views - actually does anyone know if the Rock Hotel is still open - used to have a good rep in the 60s - had beans on toast there one night when we had a delayed flight back to the UK (hmmmmm 1961/2 I think) before Malaga airport existed - seem to recall it was the most expensive beans on toast my mother ever bought me.
Go somewhere posh in Duquesa - you can get a cab, you can all drink and probably have a much more agreeable evening - alternatively go to Marbella if you are dead set on driving loads of choice - excellent setting is Villa Tiberio stunning gardens - food is ok - not fantastic - but take someone elses wallet - not the place to get roaring drunk but if youre driving you wont anyway.

The Rock hotel is open (stayed there in December) and the restaurant is very expensive by Spanish standards and the food is similar to many average London restauarants This message was last edited by michael52 on 3/14/2007.

visited Gibraltar last week loved the shops atmosphere the food was a big let down, first impressions accommodation looked dated and scruffy a good clean up wouldn't go amiss, but like i said I love shopping albeit it is expensive

Firstly I hope your parents enjoyed their stay and that you eventually found somewhere decent to eat (only realised after posting that this question is over a year and a half old! ).
The restaurant you must be referring to is called El Patio - it is in the far right hand corner of Casemates Square next to Lord Nelson & Salsa Fuego.
It is an excellent restaurant.
The owner is from the basque country but has been in Gib for many many years.
It is the only restaurant in Gib to qualify for being in the Michelin Food Guide - he has his certificates framed inside the prove it!
The owner is called Manolo and you won't meet a nicer guy - he certainly takes pride in what he does.
I cannot recommend it enough - he is closed on either a Monday or a Tuesday - pm me if you want the telephone number to enquire.
As for other restaurants in Gib, I can only agree with some of these other postings in that they are not great - and not cheap either! I have tried most of them at one time or another but can honestly say El Patio is definately the best.
I'm sure that whoever eats there will agree - definately not a place to forget...... just thinking about his menu is making my mouth water now....

Gib has some of the best restaurants on the coast far far better than any at Duquesa or Sebanillas which I think are all quite expensive and losing the edge.
All the restaurants on the Marina Bay but the Marina is a best one - look how full it is very time you eat there. Great tapas bar there- fabulous calamares .
The Casemates particulary Cafe Solo - fantastic salads.
Great one in Irish town - Cafe ??? - delicious food - sorry can't remember the name ( owned by a husband and wife )
La Mamela at Caleta beach - great sea food and the best paella I have ever tasted.
All the resataurants at Queesway Quays ( the first one is the best , guy who ownes it used to own the restaurant at the Marina)
Both tapas bars at Caleta - The Mermaid or the Village Inn ( they have the one at the Marina also )
There are lots of new restauarantss where ther new casino is going to be and I have has good reports ( near the Marina) .
We like to have a meal at the Marina and Cafe Solo when we go to Gib but the one in Irish Town has to be the best ( sorry I don't know the name but I can try and get it for you ) but you need to book if you want to go at the week-end.
There is always Sacarellos for great coffee and home made cakes . Lovely quiches at lunchtime but also meals .
As you can see I am rather biased when It comes to eating in Gib .but thee again I know where to go . I love it .
Gibraltanians love to eat . Word of advice - do not eat where the tourists eat , eat where the Gibraltanians eat as they will not frequent if the food is bad. If you hear a lot of English spoken - don't eat .
As for the Caleta Hotel - forget about it and I have heard that the Rock Hotel is not much better.
