Tenants belongings
The Comments |
Hi
Does anyone know exactly how long you should keep tenants belongings after they vacate? Normally we have only ever had a few items left, nothing of real importance but we have one property at the moment where the tenant has left an awful amount of personal belongings....photographs (lots!), clothes, school reports for the children, items which you would class as sentimental. The tenant just left without any notice and owed some rent and utility payments about 6 weeks ago. I tried calling her numerous times but no answer and despite my messages she never replied. Her number has since changed. I also tried emailing her but again no reply. I have no idea even if she is still in Spain. Her employers state she no longer works there and her next of kin do not answer. Normally I would probably have thrown left items away by now but these items I would assume would be important to someone. But as I cannot trace her am I ok in disposing of these items now? Legally does anyone know what the law states about this?
Thanks in advance

You are not legally obligued to keep it if she left them there.
