Hi can anyone advise I am looking to buy a car private sale but the car is in a deceased persons name the wife wants to sell but there is no will ,can I get in trouble if I buy this car. I am not a permanent resident been told all I need is NIE do have escrutia for house also is that enough for me to buy and should I have an agreemnet signed from her stating she has sold the car under these circumstances. Also should I pay the tax in my region or the sellers region as we live in different regions apprently one car has already been sold at the traffico centre no questions asked??????confused what to do.

Dear Pinetree:
It is a delicate matter as the agreement will have to also involve insurance coverage.
Best,

Be very careful. Without a will or authority, the car nameholder cannot be changed. Ok if you dont want to ever resell it!
It will stay in the deceased persons name and the insurance has to be in the name of the car owner!!! I cant see how a deseased person can therefore grant you permission to drive the car under their name!
Its probably not illegal, but it will be iffy.
I could not change the name to mine in my last car as the person I bought it from never changed it into his! In the past it wasnt a roblem but then I found it vry hard to get insurance. I ended up selling the car for parts!
