spanish property in UK or Spanish will?
The Comments |
As we completed on our property in November 09 it now obviously forms part of our estate........ we have a full Will in the UK covering all UK assets( such as they are) etc but have no mention of the home in spain( which has a spanish mortgage on it)............ Our UK lawyers say they cover Spain for this sort of thing( I would always go local for conveyancing due the complexity of each area) but for Wills it is pretty standard as I understand it.
We do have outstanding lawyers in Murcia but before I engage and pay up front I thought it prudent to gather general opinion.
In summary should I find a spanish lawyer to cover the Will regarding our spanish property or would our UK lawyer who cover 'Spain' be suffient.
MARIA IF YOU READ THIS YOUR OPINION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

You definitely need a Spanish will to cover your Spanish assets - whether that can be drawn up and notarised, etc., etc., in the UK and then lodged in Spain (as I believe it needs to be in a central registry) you will need to find out. What do your UK lawyers advise? Ask them to explain the process - or maybe it's just more practical to use your Spanish lawyers for this purpose.
Hopefully, Maria or someone else can advise you in more depth.

Yes, it is highly advisable to have a Spanish will as this will make things easier for your heirs. You can find further information by clicking on here
