Afer many, many months of consideration and a bit of research, I believe I have found a nich in the market. From replies I have had previously on this and other forums, there appears to be a general lack of fishkeeping equipment available in Spain. I have searched my local area and found a pet shop with a few "scabby" looking fish, but no equipment. I have spoken to local people that want a fish tank but don't know a) where to buy one locally or b) how to look after it once they have it. I have even had some want  a display tank in their home/ business but want someone to do the hard work for them.

I now have a wholesaler on board that may be willing to "take a punt" on me starting a web based shop (initially) selling dry goods to ex pats in Spain, they can also supply electrical equipment to me with 2 pin plugs. Hopefully it will expand and allow me to open a shop of my own specialising in fish.

Has anyone any thoughts on this? Are many EoSers into fish? (I know at least one is) Would you be prepared to purchase your dry goods from the UK?

Thanks for any responses.

Mark

In our area there are a few places which tend to be garden centres which do fish and fish tanks etc, such as AgroJardin.  That's where we went when we bought some fish for the kids and all the stuff to go with them.

The garden centres/ pet shops never seem to be particularly busy so I don't know what sort of demand there would be.

Thanks for the link Justin.  Fish shops in the UK don't ever seem to be overly busy, but some that make it into a "club" sort of atmosphere do well at weekends and some evenings when they have members nights.

I am looking at maybe moving as there are some properties locally that have large basements which would be ideal to have a few tanks in as a starter. In the UK I used to import fish from Malaysia and sell them from my fish house in the garage. That may be a way to start of gradually before taking the leap and getting a unit or something.
