yes JeansSis, it is!! in this technocological age you would think it would all be possible on-line. When I first started sending money over I had to recite all the information in full. It used to take at least 15minutes. Now at least you get a reference number after your transaction which allows them to access all your information next time round so you only have to confirm who you are & tell them how much you want to send and its done in a matter of minutes
re charges, we too have not had any charges from Halifax ES to another Spanish account using DD. We do though get charged euros 1.80 for any money transfer we do ourselves. Not enough to worry about we think. Halifax ES also charge euros 3 annually for the debit card. Again a minimal sum.

Hi Leeabby,
I'm sending 700e per month at 1.4290 but that should have improved a bit since then.

To all of you using Halifax to Halifax and fed up with no internet and having to phone every time to transact, Currencies Direct have an agreement with Halifax for no landing charges and you can set up a DD facility with Currencies Direct on your UK account or do it by debit card over the phone. I dont do regular monthly transfers but assume that you can set a regular monthly dd amount if you wish but check first. Not sure if they have internet facility. In my experience have never had a better rate from Halifax than I get with CD - whether UK/Euro or the other way round.

I would really question the service of a company such as Baydon Hill who spam forums for publicity! Not a good sign really.

I have just opened a halifax es account. I have a halifax websaver account and was told I could not directly transfer from it to halifax banco hispana. i was told i needed a current account in the uk and once i had this could transfer online between both accounts
websavet - to current account uk - to halfiax es
all seems very confusing

I must have a good deal then as it dont seem to happen to me - mind you I know a couple of traders there quite well from a former life as an interbank currency trader/broker. Have to say that although some of my transfers are below 5,000 they are usually at least 3k and they know I am not going to be transferring a few hundred every month. I stand corrected JeansSis and apologies if I misled anyone it was not my intention and I can only speak as I find - to be honest nobody has ever mentioned that there is a £15 charge to me so I didnt know I wasnt being charged it if you get my drift.

Hi Jeansis
Thanks for your reply, we think we are on the right track, as have opened an internet account in England with Halifax (websaver) and are about to open an account in spain that hopefully links to it, do you know what the account type is in spain??
Thanks for your help
Jill

We have just done exactly the same as you Jean Sis - found it all to be very easy & our local UK branch of the Halifax actually did most of the paperwork & sent it off to Halifax ES for us.
Have just received our pins, cards (which the postie signed for on our behalf?) & cheque book from Spain - the only thing that worries me is writing the cheques out - have you figured out how to do this (spanish not good but working on it!) or do you find that cheques aren't used much?
Cheers

Hi Annie 21,
we have the same accounts as you. We were over last October and used the cheque book several times. The fist time the assistant at Arca furniture wrote the cheque out for us in Spanish and made a copy for our reference, but then we were told that we could write the cheques out in English, (the advice on how to do this is printed on the first pages in your cheque book). We now write the cheques in English and have no problems.
Sping…
