Corvera Airport in Crisis?
Friday, April 19, 2013 @ 2:41 PM

Corvera airport has been completed for 15 months, yet is still not open. A combination of factors have caused delays: issues over airspace use, the bureaucratic difficulties in opening a new customs point, the complex paperwork required to open a new airport, but above all, the failure to agree terms with Aena to transfer operations from San Javier to Corvera.

The concessionary is unwilling to open without the closure of San Javier, but the Ministry for Development is refusing to move without compensation and neither the regional government nor concessionary have a spare 70 million to pay them. This week it's been reported that the concessionary is ready to throw in the towel, leaving the regional government with an unopened airport and a 200 million loan that it too, can´t afford to pay.

Wow cant believe the airport is possibly not opening it is especially a concerns for those who purchased properties on the understanding the airport was going to be international and close by. I am in Roda and would not want San javier to close but surely they can come to some comprimise !!

been looking at purchasing a villa in Campasol for about 6 months.
what has delayed buying is the fall in the exchange rate of pound against the euro and the delay of opening corvera airport.
what is also a problem is that the paramount project may be cancelled if covera is not opened.
has the local government shot them selves in the foot.
do accept that most of europe has cash problems but this area of spain needs the economy to move with jobs at corvera and paramount come on AENA and others who want compensation the public may lay the blame at your door.
