RED DAYS IN EARLY DECEMBER 2012
Thursday, November 29, 2012 @ 1:57 PM
Thu 6 Dec – Spanish Constitution Day – ‘Dia de la Constitución’ - Marks the anniversary of a referendum held in Spain on 6 December 1978
(Fri 7 Dec - ¡¿Puente de Dia de la Constitución?!)
Sat 8 Dec – The Immaculate Conception – ‘Inmaculada Concepción’ – ‘Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción de Santa María Vergen’
We can expect to see on the RED days – which are National Bank/Public Holidays all Public Buildings and Offices; Banks, Insurance companies, Utility businesses, Legal Agencies, Post Offices and Medical Centres, etc. etc. being CLOSED throughout Spain.
If a public holiday falls on a Thursday or Tuesday, it is often the practice to "make the bridge" (hacer puente) by taking the Friday or Monday off so creating a very long weekend.
Most Bars and Restaurants, and Bazaars will be open – together with some shops and private businesses (but only a minority) who may choose to open – such as newsagents, bakeries, petrol stations, etc.
The larger Supermarkets – but generally not MERCADONA - should be open and perhaps may adopt their normal Sunday opening hours
As always – if you are unsure – it is advisable to shop before the 'Fiesta' day if you can - ¡por si las moscas! (just in case)
