Eduardo Fernandez (Technical Responsible on tomatoes of the Guadiana): “Tomato paste --which is only tomato pulp, to which water has been removed...--; by eliminating the water, content in lycopene is concentrated, the content of Lycopene, per kilo, rises sharply and olive oil too; Virgin olive oil is mixed, intimately, with the paste and we make it transfer, that lycopene is diluted in oil. Subsequently, we separate”.
Voice in off: “In 1996, the Professor from Extremadura, Eduardo Sabio, began researching the extraction of lycopene. In 2005, he patented the method and "Tomatoes of the Guadiana" has the industrial development of that patent, worldwide. Here, they have the capacity to bottle between 20 and 25,000 liters, per day, of oil, enriched with Lycopene. This is the aspect of the considered "red gold". To understand the benefits of its consumption, we need to understand our body”
Eduardo Sabio (Professor of Thermodynamics in the area of Applied Physics at the University of Extremadura): “We grow old because we oxidize ourselves. There are a number of degradative and oxidative processes, and, then, the body has some defenses, to redress the balance; but, there comes a time, when these defenses are not sufficient to restore the initial conditions and the ageing process begins”.
Voice in off: “The Lycopene is an antioxidant, present in several plants; when consumed, directly, our body absorbs 3%; they tell us that, diluted, the absorption achieves the 90% and that numerous studies show that its consumption helps prevent cardiovascular disease or even cancer”
Eduardo Sabio: “The Cancer is, basically, an oxidation, at the cellular level, reaching the genetic material of cells and, then, these cells begin to reproduce uncontrollably themselves, and they derive, until they lead to Cancer”
Voice in off: “The Lycopene is also used to heal skin: these three friends, from Badajoz, have created a line of natural cosmetics; they made soap and natural oil soap, for body”
