POLL- Would you launch a nuclear retaliation if you were Prime Minister?
Friday, July 29, 2016

During the Trident debate in the House of Commons, new Prime Minister Theresa May was asked whether she was "personally prepared to authorise a nuclear strike that could kill 100,000 innocent men, women and children."

May’s answer was an unequivocal "yes," arguing that the whole point of having a nuclear deterrent was displaying a willingness to use it. In this she was contrasting herself to Jeremy Corbyn, who has previously said that he would never launch a nuclear strike.

Having control of a country's nuclear weapons is arguably the most solemn responsibility any Prime Minister has.

Would you press the button in retaliation?  Please leave a comment.....

British public opposes a second referendum by almost 2 to 1
Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Most of the country oppose a second EU referendum, even if Scotland were to become independent

Less than a week after the public narrowly voted to leave the European Union, many remain supporters have called upon the government to hold a second referendum with stricter conditions. The petition calling for this, which is the most popular ever, has been signed by over 4 million people.

The latest research from YouGov/Channel 5 shows, however, that most British people (58%) oppose holding a second referendum. This includes not only 91% of Leave voters, but also 29% of Remain voters. 11% don't know.

Even in an extreme situation, such as the break up of the United Kingdom, most people (51%) still oppose holding a second referendum. In the event of Scottish independence, only 30% of people would support holding a second referendum.

POLL- Do you think Theresa May is the right person to lead the UK out of Europe?
Monday, July 11, 2016

Theresa May will on Wednesday become Britain’s prime minister promising to make a success of Brexit after she completed a dramatic rout of the rival Conservatives who led the campaign to take Britain out of the EU.

Mrs May, the 59-year-old home secretary, was part of the campaign to keep Britain in the EU, but now finds herself picking up the pieces after the last remaining pro-Brexit Tory leadership candidate threw in the towel.

Andrea Leadsom, the energy minister, announced at 12.15pm that she could not command the support of the party and abandoned a shortlived campaign that had been dogged by mis-steps and controversy.

Speaking outside the Houses of Parliament, in her first public comments since becoming PM-in-waiting, Mrs May said she was honoured and humbled.

Surrounded by what will now be her MPs, she pointed to the need for strong leadership in what would be “difficult times”. Faced with uniting her party after a bitter referendum, she said: “Brexit means Brexit and we are going to make a success of it.”

What do you think? Please cast your vote and leave a comment.....
