RYANAIR 'STUFF'!!

Literally anything about Ryanair.

Resentment over the way Ryanair has handled coping with the Spanish Transport Strike on 29th September!
Friday, October 1, 2010 @ 12:27 PM

As promised I'm adding posts from my other blog http://www.eyeonspain.com/blogs/interestinginfo/4187/ryanair-general-strike-spain-29-september-hand-baggage-flights-only.aspx

Will others add to this new blog please. If nothing else it shows your disapproval over Ryanair's part & gets things off your chest. I've heard similar stories here in Spain of people locally desperate to get home.

myself and friend, travelled back from Palma, Mallorca on the 29th Sep with Ryanair, with our sons, both 2yrs old. We had to leave our 2 suitcases at the side of the check in desk and pack as much (which was not alot) into our hand luggage. Ryanair did not offer any help at the airport to help us contact anyone to get our luggage sent back to the UK, oh they did offer for our flights to be transfered to the 5th Oct! which ment staying in the airport with 2 small children till then! not an option! Then we tried to fit as much clothing etc.. into a smaller case to take onto the plane. Whilst boarding Ryanair staff where checking that everyone only had one hand luggage per person and that it was the correct size, they where not allowing anyone to carry cameras, hand bags or anything seperatley from their hand luggage! Even though we had already had to leave our cases already!!! when we tried to board the plane with our small case, a member of the ryanair staff physically took this off us! I think it was awful the way ryanair handled the situation. Ryanair staff where advising us on the flight not to put luggage in the overhead compartments but by our feet, as they would have to leave luggage at Palma!?? Now ryanair will not compensate for left luggage, as they had informed us!! So that makes it ok to be on holiday with luggage you have taken over on a ryanair flight but then they inform you you cant take it back!!! How do they suppose that is a reasonable act!!! I'm very angry with the airline! and wont be flying with ryanair again! I understand there where alot of people in the same situation and the only offer of help was from other passengers, which we where very grateful for! but no help at all from Ryanair!!!

Came back from Gran Canaria with Ryanair yesterday , like others have said, was told hand luggage only , had been phoning and checking ryanair website right upto when the taxi arrived to take us to the airport (3pm) On the Monday my wife and i had to go out and buy 2 hand luggage bags put what we could in them (10kg in each) and then as there was no change with the situation, we then left nearly all our clothes at the hotel. arrive at the airport at 3-30 in the afternoon and headed for the Ryanair ticket desk to get our boarding passes changed only to find it closed, found out they were at lunch, they finally opened at 4-15pm , went to the desk and the guy said our tickets were ok , when i queried this as it was now only hand luggage , his reply was that it had changed now, but they only found out 3hrs ago (yeah right) as i was on there website less then 2hrs previous i found this hard to believe , so we have now lost approx 20kg of clothes and personal things, the last 2 days had become very stressful , especially for my wife, which had spoiled in what was a very enjoyable holiday.

The site said free of charge but charged me just over £300 to get home four days early or risk staying another week.
Phoned Ryanair and was passed around for about 40 mins so now I'm in a dispute.
Great way to end a holiday.

My niece and her friend with their two little children have arrived back from Spain minus their 3 cases they are devistated . They were told they could only get on with hand luggage or stay in Spain until the 3rd Oct which was not an option due to work commitments. They were told they had to make their own arrangements for hotels if they stayed. I hope Ryanair makes some arrangement for them to get their luggage back in the near future I think it is a disgrace how it was handled I am sure people would have carried their cases to the plane if asked.

Information about the strike was available from several weeks before it happened- news and online. During our holiday we were aware about it and eventually that it was going to definitely happen and changed our flights a week ahead. Most hotels have internet access or there are internet cafe's. Yes, I had to organise a couple of extra days leave and accommodation, but I can take them unpaid and we found a cheap , cheap Spanish B&B several days before we needed to book it. Not ideal but I'll do it if I have to. Plus, yes, it tainted the holiday but I think you now have to check and check again when going away and also whilst there as so many problems can occur and cost you money. It isn't always the airlines fault- though I hope they bring home people's baggage. Just taking luggage to the plane isn't the answer as it has to be loaded correctly.

Here in Spain our neighbours friends who had been staying were due back on Ryanair to Liverpool on 29th. Our neighbours checked the flight two days before unaware of problems & saw that Ryanair were only allowing hand baggage on 29th so they arranged to leave hold baggage here with our neighbours. I alerted them morning of 29th to situation that Ryanair had cancelled the flight but they needed to get back to the UK so neighbours took them & their hold baggage to Murcia anyway. They actually left on 29th with their hold baggage on a Jet2 flight for 400€!

On the other hand our friends were booked with just hand baggage on a Ryanair flight Alicante to Birmingham on 29th & they checked that the flight was going, it was one that had not been cancelled. The husband, who was staying a further week, took his wife, daughter & grandkids to the airport, all was ok & he left them.
They were taken through to departure, boarding cards taken, they could see their plane then suddenly an announcement said the flight wasn't going & they needed to rebook, no other details. There were no flights available for 8 days! So our friend had a call from his wife saying 'come fetch us!'
As they have a Spanish car he drove the family home to the UK. WHAT A MESS! Ironically Easyjet WERE flying but wanted 400€ each to take them.

I think we were a little bit lucky as I always check for information about delays after the volcano problems earlier this year and the threats of 3 day strike action when we were there in August. I think its going to be the future for travellers.

In future I'm going to travel with as little luggage as possible- dont wear half of it anyway. They have shops so you can buy toiletries once there, which cuts down on weight. I'm not defending the airline but I think they were as left in the lurch as anyone but they never give out enough information. I believe you couldnt book earlier flights with Easyjet you had to re book for later dates- so even if you knew about the strike and wanted to try to get back earlier you couldn't. As the previous poster says 'what a mess!!'

i was disgusted with Ryanair. My daughter her partner andtheir 21 month old daughter, were travelling home from Lanzarote on 29th Sept. Ryanair sent me an e mail (it was my computer the flights were booked on) on Friday nite - two days after they left - saying about the hand luggage only. I made numerous phone calls and trips to various places trying to get sense out of anyone. Was told they would not be allowed to bring back their suitcase or the baby's pushchair and neither would it be sent on at a later date. They offered them a flight on Friday 1st October to Birmingham. THe airport they left from was Bournemouth where we live. They said they could come back on the following Wednesday to Bournemouth as there is only one flight a week to Lanzarote. As they could neither afford to stay another week, nor pay coach fares back from Birmingham ( Ryanair would not pay for this), they had to come back on the 29th as planned. Another e mail on Mondaynight - 27th said they must obtain another boarding pass before 11pm on Tues 28th.More phone calls to let them know and they spent the next day running around trying to get these done. Fridays e mail said it must be done on arrival at airport.
After leaving a lot of their luggage and possessions behind, were then told on arrival at airport that they could now have taken it all. As they were some 45 mins and a 50 euro taxi ride away from where they had stayed they had no chance to get their stuff back so they lost it all and had to travel without it. Also, they neednt have got the boarding passes as they had new ones for them already at the airport. The whole situation was very badly handled by Ryanair. It ruined my family's hard earned holiday. They should pay compensation for peoples possessions and bags lost through this and they should seriously review how they treat their passengers.
