Re: Certificates of non-residency (“Certificado de no residencia”)
We are writing to inform you about a new law that recently came into effect and affects all non-residents of Spain who own property and hold a Spanish bank account.
Effectively, the new law requires all non-residents to apply for a certificate from the Spanish police in which the police confirms that the applicant is a non-resident of Spain for the purposes of the Spanish tax authorities.
The certificates are important as, where for example, a non-resident holds a Spanish bank account and does not present the said certificate to his/her bank, he or she could find that the account is frozen until presentation of the same.
We would advise you therefore to contact your bank as a matter of urgency and enquire as to whether it requires you to obtain and present a “certificado de no residencia” (distinct from your NIE number).
We can assist you in applying for the certificate and can confirm that our charges and those of the police are as follows:
Police fees - €6,70 per certificate
Greenfields’ fees - €174,00 including VAT per certificate
Please confirm if you would like us to apply for the certificates on your behalf and we will then confirm the procedure for the same.
Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
With kindest regards,
