When you are worrying about the proposed hotel at Corvera, it may pay to re-evaluate what exactly it will or was originally designed to be. Forget your 5-star La Manga Club style huge hotel (which incidentally Hyatt have now withdrawn from), as this was never on the plans. Look again at the master plan and find the location of the "hotel and clubhouse". It was never going to be anything other than a 90 bed extension to the clubhouse anyway. All the other promised facilities can and probably will be incorporated within said clubhouse.

Just as a footnote we just took a drive to the end of the la Manga strip where we found Roda beach hut, sorry Beach Club. It's tiny. I almost purchased on Roda and this beautifully marketed private beach club was one of the main sweetners. I can now understand why so many Roda owners are up in arms about it being opened to the public as well. 80 people will make it seem crowded. Personally I was expecting it to be about three times the size it actually is. I shall not be making the same mistake about "our" hotel.

All due respect to Roda Owners this is just a personal opinion.

Don't be silly Dave. Do you really think that you would get this much communication from anyone at Calidona?

Hi

90 beds or not, I'd still like the hotel to be there, if only to attract the PGA golfers who don't want to self-cater :)

A big psychological attraction for golfers is the PGA connection, and there's no getting away from that.  Without the on-site hotel (however small) or a suitable alternative in close proximity, I don't see the PGA being interested.

I also recall that, back in those halcyon days in 2005 (when I believed what I was told), we were informed that there would be a 'shuttle' to the Roda Beach Club from Corvera, as part of the deal - now it seems that the beach club is barely substantial enough to accommodate Roda owners, never mind anyone else! And that's assuming that we'd ever be given the opportunity...

*sigh*

Really not worried about how many rooms the hotel has - it's the facilities that go with it that are important to me.  the following is lifted straight out of the most recent Corvera G&CC brochure - accompanied by pictures of the indoor swimming pool, gym, ladies carrying stylish shopping bags.....

"One of the main reasons for coming to live here is the peace and quiet you'll find.  The setting is important, but it's not everything.  It's also essential to have everything you need right when you need it.   That's why Corvera Golf & Counry Club has so many facilities to ensure your day-to day life is as carefree as possible: shopping area, restaurants, spa and a five-star hotel belonging to the De Vere Group.  This leading British hotel chain manages more than thirty luxury hotels that specialise in golf and spas."

I rest my case.....

It also shows Sam Torrence & Chemo playing golf.

I rest mine.

Seriously though, I have heard through the smoke signals that the PGA will not place a course/venue on it's tour without Hotel facilities. May just be hearsay?

hi.

we have a 2 bed penthouse on roda (see link below) and one of the main reasons we bught was the beach club.

i appreciate the commnts below about the size but to be honest it is adequate.

we were there a couple of times last summer and althought there was around 100 people there, it did not seem too crwded.

it is good to know that if you go a run down la manga strip, that there is somewhere you can drop in for a bite and a drink and be made welcome!

i wouldnt worry about hotels and number of rooms either on your resort to start with - as long as the faclities are there then it is all the more exclusive.

remmeber that things can always be added at a later date when the current financial climate changes.

Hi Arky

Sorry I wasn't trying to be derogative in my comments, they were merely an example of the differences between what I was expecting/imagining after being shown the sales literature and photos etc. and what I actually saw with my own eyes when I eventually visited. Fair to say I only saw the Beach Club from the outside and never actually went in as it was closed during the cooler months. Merely an example of an individual expectation versus reality

i can understand your dissapointment if you went off season right enough as things dont look the same at all, with grass and shrubery overgrown and pool area grubby.

but during the summer months it was nice.

there are a few points still needing ironed out - but thats usually the case anyway.

i think due to the current climate there is a lot of doom and gloom around - only to be expected but i still think things will turn out good for both resorts in the end.

corvera esecially i think is a place which will need to mature to be at its best.

i personally saw corvera as a long term (10 year) investment before showing how good it can be.
