Makiwer - San Cayetano

Just returned from a fantastic 10 days in the village and looking forward to another  visit very soon.

After 3 problem free years this time we encountered a couple of problems - first with the washer dryer and then the balcony  roller shutter -both requiring more than just our DIY skills.

Jose (Makiwers) was a real gem - between his poco ingles and my poco espanol both problems were solved (or nearly) just waiting for a new roller for the shutter  that he is getting in.  Obviously we realise all this business is to his advantage but his shop is like a jewel in the crown ( similar to the small ironmongers etc. of my childhood in the uk)

One thing I know I would have never  received such service at B & Q or the like!

For us wanting to feel part of the village life  is very  important, therefore  we must  make use of the local shops and we had never realised just how much he has in the shop and the range of services he can offer to us all.

Couldn't agree more with you!  I'm all for giving work to those in the village wherever possible and Jose has done lots of work for us. He and his wife are always helpful whenever we visit his shop.  When we first heard about him we thought that he would charge a lot more than some of the bigger outlets like Brico & Leroy Merlin but he is usually really competetive on price, and if you don't see what you want in the shop it's worth asking (our spanish is rubbish at the moment but we use a combination of phrase book and charade type hand gesticulations and so far so good!) as he seems to be able to get hold of most things within a few days.

We too think he is good value for money and excellant service. We had a broken part and though it was not in stock, we were told to come back at 17.00 and there it was waiting for us.

He also has 'special offers' and at the moment it is air conditioning.

Also if thier son is in the shop, he has a little more english but also he will bring up 'google translation' on the computer and this helps when asking a question.

I believe we should reward the local shops whenever possible .

I would also like to express my praise of Jose and Makiwers.  Jose has arranged, and carried out, a lot of work at my quad in San Cayetano.

The latest gem was to supply me with expanding shelves for my cooker!  I had looked everywhere for these and lo and behold a neighbour told me to ask Jose.  So as the cookers in the properties are furnished with only one shelf (if you can call it that), anyone seeking more shelves should go to Jose.

To find this sort of business in such a small village is great!
