Problems with renting

My family have owned an apartment (2 bed 2 bath) on the complex for a number of years now which we have had various issues with regards to renting the property out, from tenants running off without paying, agencies running off with deposits etc. Currently we have the property on for rental with a Spanish agency however so far they have really struggled to find anyone to rent the apartment to and don't think they will be able to find anyone to fill it either long or short term. With us living in the UK it is hard to know how true this is and was hoping for some advice from the forum as to wether other people have been unable to rent their property out and if the majority of the aprtments remain empty or wether the agency are just not really trying that hard!

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm sure you've advertised your place in your local vicinity i.e. where you work or if someone works in a factory where there may be golfers interested in renting.  Get friends to stick it on the notice boards where they work.  Go to local golf clubs etc. By getting local people you can get your money up front.People are renting long and short term on site more and more. There is a community member on site John Fernandes  that I'm sure you've heard of if you're on the google He holds keys and does his best to get lets for people even but if you get someone yourself he's very trustworthy and obviously would charge a lot less than the Spanish agencies to look after your place.
