Does anyone know of any reasonable car hire companies from Alicante airport that offer a full to full fuel policy. Have been charged crazy amounts on paying for a full tank on collection.
Thanks Janet.

Anytime I have booked with Auriga Spain they were happy for me to return with a full tank. I was charged 60e for the full tank, when I took it to empty and refilled it took 64e. Not bad. I always book through doyouspain but they seemed to have dropped Auriga Spain in favour of the worst outfit ever "Record Rent a Car", should read "Record Rip Off a Car", absolutely hopeless.

Hi folks,
I have to admit I've been stung a couple of times with those pesky fuel charges but a new thing that's starting to get on my nerves is when the hire car company takes 300E 'deposit' from my credit card, which I get charged commission on, then when they return the deposit I get a terible exchange rate. So them taking and returning a deposit costs me money.
Good luck with finding a decent, honest hire car company.

Hi All
I LAST WEEK BOOKED WITH DYS. THEY PUT ME WITH RECORD RIP OFF. I PHONED DYS AND ASKED FOR A CHANGE OF HIRE COMPANY. THEY HAVE PUT ME WITH AURIGA CROWN NOW . NO PROBLEM NO HASSLE AND THEY DID NOT ASK WHY I WANTED TO CHANGE. WHEN YOU MAKE A BOOKING STATE IN THE BOX THAT YOU DO NOT WANT RECORD OR YOU WANT A FULL/FULL RENTAL.

Welshwizard,
I would recommend getting a UK credit card that does not charge any commission for using in Spain.
I got a Nationwide credit card purely to use in Spain a couple of years ago & it is superb.
I always get the top bank rate on the day of the transaction & do not pay a cent (or penny) in commission.
I use it all the time when I go over to Condado.
Hope this is of some use.
Cheers,
Peter

look, just like with low cost airlines, shop around, and learn your lessons.. calculate the extras and then you know the total price you need to compare. Most Spainish car rentals are the much of the same. They are cheaper then the big guys such as Avis, Hertz etc. Yes they charge a stupid amount for petrol, so does ryanair for luggage, internet check in etc etc..
I use gold car for longer periods, centuro for the shorter 3 days rentals.. just bear in mind what they charge on top of the published price..

I grudgingly use Gold Car for the price and am normally well prepared for the shafting including the hour+ wait in queue as people query the extras and ask about fuel costs/swapping to another car. Their insurance seems to cover not a lot of actual damage to your car apart from the bodywork anything else and you need to factor in the 5 euro/day cover which they sell with such concern. This time suggesting to a young couple beside us "What is 5euro's/day to not worry about the car costs when you are in hospital?". Very cheery but it worked on the couple.

if you travel enough get an annual insurance for your excess
www.insurance4carhire.com
about 45 gbp per annumn
if you get a claim you pay the car hire and claim that amount back from the insurance. Had a problem once and within 4 weeks all money was paid up. well worth the money
oh yeah the car rentals don't like it but heyho they have no choice but to accept you just saying no to the extra insurance..
