Hi
I have just been told by a friend that Ryan Air will not be flying into Murcia over the winter months
From either B`Ham or East Mids.
Any suggestions for nearest airport where they will still fly out from .
Alternatively another airline that goes to Murcia from either B`ham /Est mids or any other midlands based airport
if not, then. the nearest airport will suffice
Thanks
Jan & Ham

Hi Hamibabe,
We encountered the same problem for Christmas/New Year. Last year we flew Birminghan-Murcia, this year we've booked East Mids-Alicante. slightly more driving but we found the flights were much cheaper anyway

They are not also flying in from Bournemouth to murcia something about landing fees being levied at st javier!!!!!!
will just have to be alicante slightly longer drive but can still get out from a local airport. If its true st javiar they are not doing themselves any favour with corvira on the horizon!

Hi All
Ryan Air are only flying from Dublin and Stanstead over the winter months , due to a dispute with the Murcian Tourist Board .

They are also pulling out of Belfast http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/ryanair-boss-michael-orsquoleary-pulls-planes-out-of-belfast-with-a-colourful-broadside-at-our-leaders-14930449.html

We haven't flown into San Javier for any of our visits over at least a year. Each time we have been travelling the flights into Alicante with either Ryanair or Easyjet have been much cheaper. We also found that Alicante manages 'speedy boarding' or 'priority boarding' more efficiently. Friends who used the apartment also flew into Alicante using Jet2 because they also found the flights on the days they wanted to travel to be cheaper. Its only adds 10 minutes or so to the journey.
Had a drive out to the site of Corvera airport and we were pleased to find that door to door the journey is 25minutes- so just have to hope the 'no frills' airlines use it at a good price.

Hello again
From your messages it looks as if Murcia could loose a lot of its business & very soon .
I think we too will have to look to arriving in Alicante.
Has anyone got any idea of the traveling time from Alecante.
Ham`s job involves a lot of traveling now, more than last year as he i s now based in Warwickshire A
As I do not drive it always falls on him.
I would hate for his hard earned holiday is spent traveling.
Hope to see some of you ,if we ever get there.
Thanks for all of you advice & suggestions.
Jan & Ham

The down side of Corvera airport being on the door step will be the noise from the planes, cda is on the flight path into Corvera airport with planes that will be landing/takeoff day and night.

Hi All
We live a half hour away from Glasgow airport and the flight path is over us but the are so high it is never a problem and there is very light noise aswell.
Dont see the airport being a problem in any way shape or form.
We have always found Alicante to be much cheaper not only for flights but also car hire and you have much more choice also. I would think that when Corvera opens, Murcia will close to commercial flight as it is supposed to be a militay airport, thats why most of the flights are in the afternoon and at night or so we have been lead to believe.

Ryanair pulling out of Belfast has no affect on us here as they didn;t fly to Murcia from here. Our options are Jet 2 into St Javier but only to end Oct or EJ or Aer Lingus to Alicante all year round - not really much diff as Alicante to Condado takes maybe another 20 - 30 minutes compared to St Javier.
Ryanair will go where the airport subsidies are - they wanted the runway in Belfast extended so they could fly to European destinations so we might have got them but no chance now !!

San Javier is supposed to have a further runway opening this year for additional commercial flights releasing the other runway to its military role. We have found the travel time to be only another 10/15 minutes or so from Alicante-especially the more we have become used to the journey. San Javier is 50 minutes from CdA so we've found the difference to/from Alicante to be negligible. We had read that CdA isnt expected to be on any flight path.

Always use Alicante, due to the price, always can get flights from Bham and E Mids cheap to Alicante, takes me 1hr 15 mins to CDA, and thats sticking to the speed limit, and its a easy route.
