Having brought my payment of community fees up to date ( I didn't even know that I was in arrears until two weeks ago) I feel free to ask a few questions about NM. We were out for the week-end at the start of the month and I noticed that although some of the original "illegal" satellite dishes have now gone, a few more have appeared and the unauthorised doorway in the pool steps is still there. I recall Ammex saying, prior to their substitution by Gaemu, that they were taking steps to enforce the community rules in this respect but, barring error, no further information has been forthcoming. Now, the odd satellite dish and the occasional unapproved building alteration may seem neither here nor there However, if the community is not seen to be dealing with these issues firmly a precedent will be set and people will believe that they can do what they want - even if to the detriment of the community as a whole.

Justin, I wanted to touch base again on the question of unauthorised construction and satellite dishes in Nueva Manilva. I wrote to Gaemu some time ago and they replied a fortnight ago saying that they were not aware of these issues and would contact the community president before responding to me. I thought it would be easier to cut corners and contact you through this forum. Has the community decided not to enforce the rules on satellite dishes and construction?

Unfortunately all satellite dishes on terraces are against the community rules. I think yours is also the one where someone below you is running a cable up to your dish along the outside of the building. This isn't allowed either.
With people installing their own dishes it has also meant that those that chose to have the communal system installed had to pay considerably more than they should have had to.
The dishes are ugly and we have a communal system in place so they must come down. Although yours is in your terrace someone who had one on the outside of theirs actually fell down, just thank god it didn't hit anyone. We can't allow dishes in or out of terraces.
We are taking action against all owners who are no abiding by the community rules. This is a community and that's how it works.
Regards
Justin

Hi Andy. I’m glad to say that I don’t have anything else to moan about for the moment!
Everyone has always been aware that there is a community rule prohibiting the installation of individual satellite dishes. It’s intended to preserve the appearance of the apartments which is in all of our interests. If everyone was to flout the regulations the building would soon look like Jodrell Bank. That is why Helen and Debbie put a lot of effort into organising the installation of a community satellite system - which a considerable number of residents subscribed to despite the fact that it was a more expensive option than individual dishes.
