I think given the location, the size and work being carried out that this is, in my view, a fairly stupid article based on limited knowledge of the area
Most people are aware that the military are keen to get San Javier back fully as a training facility plus a number of major well known airlines are already talking to the operators especially isn this airport is not operated by AENA
You only need to look at the dispute between AENA and Ryaniar to understand the potential here, especially as it will be the first international hub this area

Amazing how some people waste their time looking for negative stories about Spain and then see fit to publish them on this forum - just beats the hell out of me. If they could only devote the time to the more positive aspects then we would all feel a lot better.
The phrase that relates to turkeys and them having a Christmas vote immediately springs to mind! JF.

They have just cottoned onto the story that was in the Spanish press ages ago about the fact both San Javier and Corvera would be looking at the same client group. San Javier has had an extra runway built and of course then there's Corvera about to open and a Minister made a comment that they wouldnt be in competition and then later said one would have to close- but its more likely his comment was really lost in translation. Just muddied the waters thats all. No doubt San Javier will maintian the restricted hours it has now but with a greater hourly potential and Corvera will be 24 hours or thereabouts.

Just look around, unlike UK who only increase infrastructure to cope with now!
Spain is looking forward and building for the future (roads, trains, airport, town centers and so on).

Funny place San Javier, airport shuts down promptly at 10:30pm so if your flight is late as ours was - Ryan Air - then they divert you to Alicante which aint that bad but the hire car can be challenging.
Flying back to the UK and your plane is late then the airpot closes and you find your own way to Alicante and all the taxi drivers take full advantage.
So choose your flights well
Corvea airport will open next year however i will miss flying to San Javier and the exitement of being diverted elsewhere...

The Opening if Corvera Airport,The Opening of Paramount Theme Park, The Opening of Condado Clubhouse, the Closing of Ryan Giggs fly will any of these events ever become reality. Sadly for Mrs Giggs, I doubt it!

Just read on 'simply networking' that Corvera Airport is on schedule . Simply networking, great site that seem to rely on facts, also a 'whats on' diary of the area. Met the owners a couple of times, i believe they get proper press release and not local gossip and also attend a lot of the fiestas ect. mentioned, personaly to report on

Everything I've read indicates Corvera is on track.
Can't seeany reason why they would be building an airport and a railway link to not open it.
Agree totally with previous posters about the planning in Spain. While the UK article said it was a white elephant airport I don't think they were basing this on facts or future projections for this area. If the UK planning is anything like Ireland facilities are only thought about when the current ones are at bursting point. And then by the time everyone argues where its going etc the people get it about 5-10 years after they needed it
The motorway system in Murcia is 1st class and I hope the new airport and train links are equally excellent.
I'm a lot more confident in Corvera appearing than Paramount.
