council tax / rates

be warned.....!!!

by chance found out that rates were due when i was over in june.

we are M4 calle encina 6 and have just paid 404 euros for 2010 and 414 euros for 2011.

bit of a bummer as wasn't expecting any of this yet.

deadline for 2010 was 27th june and 2011 5th july.

i was late with the first so may have to pay a penalty to murcia ayamiento.... ab it of interest at the most i was told.

my medsea solicitor manuel martinez has done it free of charge after i faxed him both sums. it's tricky to do by internet / baking .

he has also has sent me direct debit mandate which i faxed back to him so i'm not caught short when 2012 are due next april/may.

also tax declarations have to be done by everyone....manuel did these in january and i didn't really realise it.

manuel just paid my 2010 rates and there was no penalty for late payment.

just got quote for wills (apparently unlike in UK ,inheritance tax is paid on half of the value of house on the death of one spouse)

300 euros each and 150 euros each to witness it befor notary.

anyone else had wills done and at what cost ?

We have also finally paid our rates for 2010 and 2011.  We spoke to our solicitor who kindly contacted the town hall on our behalf and they sent them the forms which they emailed to us(free of charge?) so we could pay at the banks stated when next in Spain  - unable to pay at our own bank which is lloyds!  The 2010 bill were due Aug 11 and we were able to pay these but the 2011 were due July 6th?  - we didn't arrive in Spain until 8th - so the bank wouldn't accept payment - we had to go to the townhall in murcia get a new docket  which gave us another 7 days to pay at a charge of 20 euros  extra for late payment!! While at the townhall we set up a direct debit so hopefully next year these will automatically come out of our bank account, again this can't be set up at your own bank got to go to the townhall - they make things so diffcult don't they!!  However the guy at the townhall in Murcia was so helpful and he spoke abit of English too!!  Good luck those who have still to sort their taxes out!!  Julie and Kevin
