Such a pity that using the pool bar is now completely unaccessible for anybody with kids on holidays unless you are rich.
Called in there on Friday evening at 5pm with my wife and 2 kids. We were charged an dispicable €13.50 to use the pool.
(Adult €4.50, child €2)
After paying, I expressed my shock to the manager Evette, who reacted very agressively, stating that it was a fair price and was the 'going rate' (eh to what? - Confirmed today - La Torre are offering a family of 5 a full month rate of €100 to use the amazing luxury pool and bar with lovely cushioned sunbeds and infinity pool for just €100)
I very qucikly pointed out that, charging so much was counter productive, because we wont be there now to spend the 40 euros a day we spent last August on poolside drinks, ice pops, pizzas etc each day
This is not personal, however, on making my feelings known to Evette, she was very rude, but this thread is not about that. In my opinion, if you are in business, you should welcome customer feedback, and even if you dont agree with what they say, you should thank them and not embarass them and yourself in a public place when they were expressing their opinion as a customer. This whole discussion was witnessed by a 3rd party.
I am very dissapointed, as my kids are ultimately the ones who loose out here. We are back there in 3 weeks for 3 weeks, and we would have used the pool most days. Our loss is the pool bars massive financial loss - we would have given them over €400. (That is not including drinks at night)
Shortsighted in my opinion. I am sure business is tough, I think customer service should be higher on the agenda. Sierra Golf needs this facility.

Hi Jason.
This is so dissapointing.
We too tend to spend much of out time at the pool bar and those of you who know us will remember that we usually holiday with friends. We will be out soon and are bringing two other grown up kids with us, that makes seven of us.
At those prices it would cost us 29 euro A DAY!
We are over for more than a fortnight and would be round at the pool bar most days. Theres simply no way Im spending nearly 500 quid to use the pool bar, especially given that we would probably spend that again on food.
Like you Jason we usually buy our lunch there (thats lunch for 7 people) and drinks etc. We also go to the functions and barbe-cue nights etc. How can we be expected to pay nearly 30 euros for the pool and then another 70 odd for lunch and drinks?
Time we got our own pool I think. Its a shame because the pool bar is a good facility and meeting place. Surely there another way?
Why not allow those who buy food to use the pool for free?
Or
Prohibit people from bringing their own food and drink into the pool bar?
or
Offer a heavilly discounted two week family rate for holiday makers? (and for that matter residents)
As is stands from a business perspective this is financial disaster, the takings from food sales and functions will plummet as will any money that was being generated from people using the pool because people simply wont go. I know at these prices we would go a lot, lot less and feel agrieved when we did go. Thats not good business.
We will check this out ourselves when we arrive but if true I think we will end up buying the family package in La Torre (thanks for the tip.) until such times as we put our own pool in.
MESSAGE TO MANAGEMENT....please rethink this policy, we like using your pool bar and recognise that it takes money to run a business especially in these tight times BUT cahrging those prices to simply use a pool is counterproductive and will only do your business harm.
Hope you can resolve this in a mutually acceptable and succesful way.

Hi Jason
sorry to hear your shock at the pool bar prices but if you consider the cost of running your own pool
my pool on sierra golf cost me 16,000 euros and i pay over 1,000 a year to maintain and keep clean
if you go to the beach they charge 6 euro for a deck chair for the day so overall i dont think its to bad for a whole day
4.50 for adults and 2 euro for children pools are very expensive to keep clean and maintain

Hi Chic and liv
Thanks for your comment
I think it is fair to point out the pool has costs, that is not an issue, I am happy to pay to use it.
I think though you cant compare to the beach, I used the beach all day Saturday, Sunday for free. I brought a packed lunch and lay on a towel reading a book.
My wife and kids used the beach again this morning for free then went to the fantastic public pool today in Balsicas for €5 - in total (a much bigger, more expensive pool to maintain)
The point is, as I dont have a pool, if I want to use a pool on SG I have to pay €13.50 (a day)
I am very aware of the costs. The cost in this instance since she raised them so much is too high. (I paid everyday last year no problem) Last august there was on average 20 people at peak time using the pool.
If the high cost is all going to maintain the pool fair enough but by week 2 in August last year was very murky, and a lot of people, including my kids got ear infections, so you can draw your own conclusions there. They loved going though to play with their friends. Now they cant.

Friends of ours recently used the pool and thought it was great value - it was free! Mind they probably spent well at the bar! Something seems to have changed.
Obviously the pool has to pay it's way, but on the basis that it is a basically a sprat to catch a mackeral (ie customers buying drinks, ice cream and food) a sensible economical balance needs to be struck. That is a decision for the pool operators to make, but in doing so it would seem sensible to have in mind that fishermen do not expect to pay much for their sprats!

I am pretty sure the management of the pool bar are following this. I hope the poolbar are watching this thread, pretty sure they are. If so, I can tell them I have had numerous private messages from residents and holiday makers alike, supporting my viewpoint, but due to the goldfish bowl like situation that Sierra golf is, that they would prefer not to post publically here in this forum. I sincerely hope that they recognize there is a significant amount of people who would like to use their facility for a fair price, and who would like to continue to support the pool bar - if it is affordable A quick glance at the views on this thread gives a clear indicator of the interest I hope in this instance, free speech by a consumer has a positive result. We shall see...

Well, another holiday season over and a quick update on this thread.
It seems, we were able to live without using the pool in this bar, we just got a freestanding pool, in the garden, 13 x 13 foot x 3 foot (they cost 130 euro all in) which did the job, and, we saved a fortune on beer, pizza's and ice creams evey day. We even got to know lots of new amazing beaches, all very close to us on SG.
Just goes to show, if you have a nice facility beside you at the right price, you will use it. If not you wont. You find alternatives. {From walk and drive by's the bar, it seems a lot of people felt the same way this year.}
We did drop up for a beer, ( 1 night in 3 weeks we were there) and are happy it is there for that purpose at night, and long may that continue. It is a lovely bar. (must say, didn't feel very welcome, although Jose was very friendly)
We also used the pool in Balsicas (€2), and in the amazing Bamboo bar in La Torre (which is now FREE to use on Saturday afternoons pool parties)
Here is hoping next season brings some common sense. Everybody wants to spen their money up there as it is convienient & comfortable

I think this thread should now be put to bed . Soon marion will be opening her new bar / restraunt in Balsicas and I hope every sucess , She deserves it her food is fantastic and I for one will be down there enjoying it . The sadness is if Marion closes lakeside SG will be left with one bar on site . With negitive talk it will only mean residents and holidaymakers will have to drive off site to seek another venue . We all have complaints with all different things , but to keep airing them will do the site no favours . It is bad enough with Masa not completing , but to lose any facility on SG is not good . The pool bar is one of the meeting places to Spanish and English alike . Quiz night , big success .Bingo for those who like it , also a good night . Sat . night entertainment Evette offers is Brill , and more often than not ( FREE ). Jose makes tapas and gives them to his customers , beside crisp and nuts which he also offers free . They have also started a social night which includes killer pool , dominoes , cards , darts , race night . All these are there for us to use at no cost .Evette and Jose work hard to keep the bar opened for us all to use , from early morning to last thing at night with the help of Anna and Nicoli . If some things seem expencive it all relitive on what you want to pay , I would not buy expensive whiskey or expensive wines because I cannot afford them , but I would not call them because of this . Its the choice we all have make . I went to learn Spanish from Evette , she only charged 2 euros a lesson per person She started with one class and finished with 8 until she took ill . No one does it cheaper . I will be looking forward to this winter's classes . I hope next year there is more people on SG and hopefully peace among the sun beds .
