Hi to all the Irish in Condado,
I know this might have been discussed before but I think its about time we made a proper effort to get some Irish channels in Condado. Every country in Europe seems to have at least 1 tv channel. I do not know how many Irish we have in Condado but we ourselves know quiet a few. I think we should approach Milenium and even if we had to pay an initial payment, it would be worth it. Surely with the free to air it should be easy enough to do.
Fred

The channels are selected by Polaris, one a2z, not mileniun. Which Irish channels would you be talking about? The availability of channels would depend on which sat and frequency they were transmitted on but I could look and ask if possible

Hi Phil,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. The only reason I mentioned Milenium was as a starting point as they could get me the information about the Polaris TV and any other company who were in that line. We have 4 Irish channels, TV 1, TV 2 TV 3 and TG 4 We would not need all the channels, but it would all depend on availability.. TV2 usually have Champion League matches on every Tuesday evening, which I am sure most of the resort would be interested in as well. Also you would get Heiniken Cup games.
See you on golf course in September.

Hi Munster
I agree with your sentiments but unfortunately the Irish TV channels RTE 1 & 2, TG4 & 3 are not transmitted in the clear on Astra 2D even though the satellite foot print is clearly available across Europe. Seems crazy! If you have a sky box & Irish card you will be able to receive these channels but this may be problematic on the resort for Polaris. Seems a bit crazy but the Irish Government haven’t signed up to make these free to air just yet. This is due to the copyrights as the Irish Tax payer pays a lot less for the same program set as the Uk license payer. There was some pressure to get one channel in the clear for expats in Europe but this hasn’t come to light just yet and the launch date was put back in 2010 due to financial pressure on RTE. This will now more then likely be the 24hr news channel then is available on the web and on “Saorview”. Setanta TV does carry some Irish sport but it is pay per view.
Finally, we do have all the Irish Radio channels in the clear across Europe on Hotbird13 for years and I have been chasing Polaris Telecom for 2 years to get them on the EPG on the resort and I just recently asked the community to chase on my behalf. They have told me that RTE 1 radio and RTE 2 should be on the Radio channels list but I couldn’t get them during my visit in June. If we can get these it may be a start particularly if you want to follow the sport. Maybe you can check if you are on the resort?
Good Luck!
David

Hi Munster,
Totally agree with you, it would be great to have Irish T.V available.
It seems strange that these channels can be got all down the east coast of Spain to Torrevieja, also in all the Irish pubs in Majorca, Canary Islands and throughout the Costa del Sol, but ca'nt be got in the Murcia region.
Phil, any help you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe if Milleniun were contacted to ask Polaris the question if it may be possible to have them available on Condado, even if it was to cost extra, they could be available only at an extra cost to anyone that wants them, similar to the Dutch channels at present.
The Irish Open is on RTE1 for the next 3 days, as will the Solheim Cup in Sept., free to air. It would be great to have these available in Condado.

Hi all, Can someone confirm the exact names of the channels we are talking about, TV1 or RTE1? Obviously a2z will only retransmit FTA channels so if there are encrypted it's a non starter

Did an auto-tune a couple of weeks back and BBC1 Northern Ireland became my default BBC1 channel this month at 101 on the PW TV Box and BBC2 NI is now at 102 ............. I've just e-done he auto-tune and no change ................. so it's not just still there, it's now taking the No1 spot ............. Kildare v Donegal is enthralling !
So if you have the PW Box then sounds like you need an auto-tune

Hi All,
All those channles are only available on SKY and are encrypted so they can't be made available ( decrypted ) on Condado.
If they were just retransmitted it would be possible to receive them with a SKY box with a viewing card by adding them as additional channels, but I can't see A2Z going for that as it would take up freq space that is being used for FTA channels. Sorry.
Perhaps if they ever go FTA it could be looked at again.

Pity.
Because I'd guess that although BBC NI might show the football they might be less likely to show the hurling.
Does anyone know if this is true? Have only watched them on Irish channels so don't know from experience.
Wouldn't mind watching the semis when I'm over in CdA.
