Paramount in Kent, Paramount in Murcia. Considering there are currently NO Paramount parks anywhere in the world, they seem to generate a lot of interest.
It’s all to do with cleaver marketing. I have some land in my garden, I could approach Paramount and say I am building a park, if it ever gets built, can I pay you royalties and use the name of some of your old films. If I deliver a good pitch I am sure Paramount would agree. From their point of view, this is a no brainer. There is no outlay from them and they stand to make money for nothing if my park ever gets built.
I then go to the financial markets and tell them I am looking for Funding for Paramount Bolton (sounds better than Wilkesland!).
What I am saying here is that taking an option on some baron Spanish land in the middle of nowhere and getting Paramount to agree to take money from you if the park is built, takes very little money. The difficulty comes when you try to get investment to actually build your proposed park.
It will be hard to get anyone to invest in Paramount Murcia, when you consider Spain is in a lot of financial trouble and will almost certainly require a full EU bail out soon. They may even ditch the Euro completely. Add that to the fact that the country has almost over 20% unemployment with riots and protests in many cities would you invest? Also look at Spain’s 2 biggest Parks Terra Mitica (which Paramount did once own) and Port Aventura both have been a financial disaster, yet both of these are located near large tourist areas (Benidorm & Barcelona).
I am sure that Paramount Murcia will never happen, weather it was all a plan to try and boost tourism and property sales in the area, or whether there was actually an intention to build the park is something I don’t know. What I do know is that Faulky is correct; it will be a long time till I can sell for a decent return.
On a positive note “I love my little place in the sun”, “Condado is progressing well”, “I prefer the unspoilt nature of Condado”, “Who wants Corporate American Tat?”, “I would much Prefer a peaceful Vino on my Balcony”, I don’t believe any of these statements, but like to predict some of the clichés that will be used in the response to this post!
Off you go.
