Stolen washing machine

Hi all

We arrived Sunday morning 11th November and the first thing I do is check that the hose has been stolen because I would be disappointed if it hadn't!!!    We are on block 1 Penthouses.

However I was really saddened to see that some lovely person has chosen to steal my washing machine as well as the hose.   Our keyholder went over on Friday to turn everything on and it was there then.  I walked along the path in front of the Penthouses and noticed that all the occupied ground floors have put some sort of padlock on them - stupid me never thought of this!!

Thought I ought to let everyone know that things get stolen basically from your neighbours.  The hoses over the years are quite petty because they only cost a few euros but a washing machine is very unchummy.

Each time we saw security they were leaning up against the entrance talking to the people inside.  When we informed our keyholder we were informed that every lorry and van is checked on leaving so it would have been someone on Condado who has taken it.

Unfortunately every person I looked at I did wonder "have you nicked by washing machine".

Me again - the stolen washing machine.  I have been trying all morning to change our e-mail address which I have been informed by Eye On Spain has been done successfully but it hasn't. 

We are now on jeremy.price1@talktalk.net  for all the floods of sympathy we are going to receive.

Lorries and vans may be being checked but not estate cars or MPV's I know I have an Opel Zafria, visit the site regularly and have never been stopped or checked, not a problem putting a machine in the back with a blanket over

On Terrazes I am well known, visit regularly but I am always stopped and checked

I am horrified to hear this, we are in the Jardines and we have had nothing nicked so far, touch wood! 

However, me thinks its time to go shopping for a padlock for our washing machine! Thanks for letting us know.

Thats an awful feeling knowing a neighbour is a thief

this is not the first time this has been reported on here.

Should MV not do a letter drop to warn of this so people canbe aware they have to protect their property.

Please. I have my apartment on Penthouse 1. Again set the facts straight. Yes some toe rag has stolen a washing machine. No. nobody knows who it is. WHY say a neighbour has done it then? This is how rumour and speculation start.

I agree, it may well not be neighbors...  it is quite something to steal a heavy washing machine.... I think they could easily pass security one way or another as previously mentioned!

In one night many years ago on La Torre they stole more than 10 machines, just went down the road taking them, nothing seen

There are a couple of good security measures to protect the outside of any property, the first is to install a PIR floodlight that will come on if anybody comes close to the property and you can get wired and solar powered versions, cheap to get fitted and the last thing they want is to be seen

The second is to internally put a light or radio on a simple timer, get your key holder to regulate the times

Crime is widespread in the area with regular break ins and thefts often from well organised gangs. This is not an excuse but there is no unemployment benefits system for non Spanish nationals so stealing is the way they go

I know that it is a pity that you have too do this but security is all about taking common sense precautions and if course make sure that you have contents insurance

Penthouse 1 is more remote than the others, if someone is going to steal they dont want to be seen so will pick an end house or block which is better for a quick unseen escape.

If I was in an apartment/block/jardine that wasnt overlooked I would have more security in place than the norm for Condado.

This is purely an observation not being critical of where anybody lives on the resort.

The reason I said it was probably my neighbour was our keyholder informed me every lorry and van is checked on leaving  the complex - they said it could be someone on the complex.  It took me 5 days to decide if I should inform people the machine had been stolen because I never go on the Eye on Spain - I read it and everything always seems to turn nasty - hence the 5 days deciding if I should tell people.

Golfinjim I only wanted people's tea and sympathy  not something a little bit sarcastic.  I honestly thought ( me stupid again) these threads were supposed to help people - my mistake.

Sarcastic? Sorry if I offended you that way, and I do sympathise with your plight. I just dont like the thought of being branded a suspect.  I am sure if anyone with a van or large enough vehicle wanted and intended to steal something, they could get it past security. Just found the term "neighbours" pre-judgemental.

 Frank, as I said, I'm not paying you anymore than €75 for it .............

we know you didnt mean anything with your comments. i am a neighbour also.

i know exactly how you feel about the invasion of your property and you cant help suspect everyone you bump into. something similar happened to me in the uk i suspected everyone. You cant do anything aboiut it and hanging on to it will destroy you.

you will never know who has done the dirty and thats the truth.

just take stock on your security and dont allow it to happen again. go out and treat yourself to a brand new better modle and a lock.

You can rule my Wife out of suspicion.... I cant get her to use the one we have already got! The same would go for anyone who had a hoover or Iron nicked.
