Steve and Anita - news I am getting from Spain means we have been sold out yet again I feel!!! Apparently the Restaurant and Bar will be run by a Spanish couple from Dolores and they will serve Spanish food. I have nothing against Spanish food but a variety for the people living in the community is essential. A portion of the Restaurant facilities are being taken over by Francisco to build a gym - so I hear?? Why are we never asked to contribute to some ideas? When I heard David (who worked behind the bar with Jim) might take it over we were pleased as knew he would continue with the entertainment and quiz nights. We all thoroughly enjoyed these.
In the UK we work hard during the day and often go on to a gym - when on holiday in San Cayetano we love to unwind and enjoy the facilities which included the entertainment and quiz nights laid on at the Bar.
What is going to happen with the lovely little snack bar near the pool? Used to love sitting there after a swim eating a lovely "toastie". Will be interested to hear if you have any more news for all of us living in the UK. Taray seem hell bent on disappointing us year after year!! Thank goodness I don't live there!
Hope you have different news that might cheer us up a little. Perhaps you could even see if work has started on the gym which is supposed to be built?
Regards Pinot

Well its all happening at the Aquadel!!! There are a load of workmen in there at the moment and they are knocking seven bells out of the place'.
The main bar has already been partitoned off at the top end and it is now only about 60% of its original size. The partition is on the pillar just to the right of where the side TV set was
The top doorway and glass side panel from the bar to the Aquadel reception has been removed, so at the moment you can walk straight into the new top area.. There is a doorway at the end of the partition from the bar area to the new sectioned off area (Aquadel side) and also what looks like a large window opening near the middle. However, there will be no access from the bar to the large side terrace.
They have just made what looks like another serving hatch opening on the pool bar, so it looks like they will be able to serve to both the pool and the small terrace area (which suggests that this may be fenced off for the bar at some time).
As you say, no one tells us what is happening, the rumours are the new top area will be, a) Creche b) Sports Shop c) Gym, or a combination of any of those.
So all we can do is wait and see what happens next.
Dave

Further to my post below, I went for a swim this morning and asked Fran directly what was happening with the new alterations.
Initially the new area will be a gym mainly for Pilates, Zumba etc although there may be a couple of small exercise machines. The access door from the large side terrace will be sealed off, so entry will be via Aquadel reception. There will be a glasss wall about a metre in from the reception area so a walkway can be provided into the top end of the bar. A creche and sports shop may come later. There are no plans at the moment for any use of the large side terrace.
The pool terrace is going to seperated off as described below with fencing so that it can be used by the bar.Tthe new hatch will serve the pool.
I did ask when the bar would re-open and Fran said around Valentines Day, give a day or two!!! (Could be a Spanish day or two?)
I managed to nip in and take a couple of photos which I have uploaded, these may give you a better idea what is going on.
Hope this helps
Dave

Its an absolute joke, theres plenty of land doing nothing besides the petanque pitches where a gym or whatever chould have been made and left the bar as it was. We didnt go very often, but when we did we looked forward to a beer (or two) and seeing live entertainment, im sure everyone else has this opinion. We had some very enjoyable evenings there.
Why the hell would a Spanish couple get the lease on an predominately UK community bar I really dont know, oh well, something that was good has sadly come to an end, In my opinion it should have stayed as it was and improved upon, I think everyone will agree.

We agree with all that has been said, Why were we not consulted about the changes to the bar area and club, We waited years for a pool, and just when we enjoyed the facilities of the bar and club area, its taken away from us, wish we had never bought on San Cayetano, and considering selling, we enjoyed the live entertainment and quiz nights, the last thing we feel like doing after working all year is to come and work out in a gym while on holiday, the children also loved the entertainment, maybe they should read how we all feel,

At last sanity….
This is the first time I have ever posted to Eye on Spain but I was so incensed by the majority of postings to this thread and so in agreement with Vienna that I had to write in support.
Little Britain – UK on Sea. We few brave extranjeros who have dared to move into the ‘ghetto’ that has become Hacienda San Cayetano will be so disappointed to hear roast beef and Yorkshire pudding is now off the menu.
As for Taray, a local builder of some 40 years repute, can we not, during the worst recession in our lifetime, forgive them for at least trying to make the thing break even?
Well said Vienna. I only hope that there are one or two more like you out there in the ghetto!

Err ......Hello.... I would like to point out that I have only reported on what is happening at the Aquadel (including pictures) so that people who are in the UK are aware of the changes that are happening at the moment,
At no time have I been critical against what is being done, or that the bar will be run by Spanish, in fact, I welcome the place being open again.

I dont mind if the new bar, if there is to be one is run by spanish. What i object to in PeteKath posting is calling the place a ghetto. Maybe Taray is a local builder with 40 years repute, but he was not reputable with the residents of Hacienda San Cayetano. We were told when we bought our properties that we would have a communal pool that we could use, and not one that we would have to pay for using.
Tom.

The problem here, is not the case thats its being ran by Spanish people, (take note of the correct way of spelling Spanish, Vienna) its the fact that they have taken away the facilities we had, ie, a large venue for the opportunity to have live bands and entertainment, dont give a monkeys what the nationality is of who runs it the bar. But I still think many people will agree with me. All those of you that agree with the decision, do you live here permanently,, I think not.

Apologies. I am grateful for the information.
You will note I purposely said "majority of postings". My comments were never intended to include you.

Steve Thank you for educating me with regards to my spelling - I feel enlightened!! Why so negative? It may turn out to be an improvement. Your post with regards to "a Spanish couple..." certainly suggested that it is an issue. Whether we live permanently in SC is somewhat irrelevant, is it not? Regards.

No, to be honest , I feel sorry for the Spanish couple who have the lease, as I said no one will go there, its not what the majority of people wish for. And yes, it is relevant if you live here all the time, being permanent residents, we enjoyed going to the bar to see live entertainment as Im sure all the other permanent residents will agree, a fantastic time was had by all.

I agree with Steve and Anita - who runs the restaurant and bar is immaterial. What concerns us all is that we could loose the evening entertainment and quiz nights that we all so thoroughly enjoyed. Even not living there, this gave the whole place such a boost and enabled us to enjoy ourselves in the environment of the complex. - fantastic evenings and within walking distance! What more could we have wanted?
Do we know whether the Spanish couple will be thinking of putting on some entertainment? Mind you having taken over some of the restaurant and bar now it may restrict any entertainment taking part because there won't be the room. This will obviously reflect on the possible income the Spanish couple could have made. My sympathy at this stage is with them.
Shall we wait and see what happens when it re-opens?

I guess that was my very point - do we know that the entertainment will stop, or are we assuming that it will be (clearly it should not do so)?
Understand that the full-timers want a full and varied package but what's to say that this won't be the case going forwards?

You all have to remember this maybe a business thing, althrough you may have enjoyed the Music and the quiz nights ( maybe they were not profitable ) ie hench why the old ownerers have left the country, and new tried and tasted owners in spain have replaced them !!!! after all it will have a bar there so you can enjoy a drink plus more while you laze the days away at the pool as is expected. There are other bars in the village ie maquesina, Berman,Lozeno, & la Rosa who were all there when the majority of you bought in the village.i know berman do parties for events plus maquesina, and also La Rosa who have pool nights bingo nights and Quiz nights plus parties and karoke. also all three play live football football matches maquesina & berman in spanish la Rosa in english. So what you dwelling on the past for, go into the village and see whats happening there ( it maybe, not that scarey ) after all.pardon my grammar and spelling lol
