BIRDS NESTING

Has anyone else in the Penthouses had problems with the number of birds nesting in the eaves of the floors to the penthouses.  Most blocks now have at least 4-7 nests in the corners/eves.  They are making the whole block look dirty, what with the bird shit and dead birds, that fall from the nest.   Most of these nests were there last year and I would have thought M/L, who are aware of the problem, would have knocked the nests down, to stop them coming back.  I know birds will re build, but if we allow them to keep nesting there it will never go away.  I am not against birds, please dont get me wrong, but not outside by door and not so many of them!
 

We have the same problem on Mar Menor Golf. It is ilegal to knock the nests down during the breeding season,and this runs from March to October. From November to February you have to get permission to knock them down. But the following season the birds will return to the same spot to build again. Neighbours have tried to to knock the nests down while they are being built but within 24 hours the birds have rebuilt! Over the past 2 years our propertie have been painted and even the painters would not knock them down.

House Martins, here in the Uk are protected & like in Spain you cannot knock the nest down during the nesting period. We had the first nest in the eaves of our house 11 years ago & @ first we though how great it was. Unfortunatly we soon get rather fed up of the mess & the disclouration of our window ledge which caught most of it but could not think of a solution  until our window cleaner suggested that we hung a CD disc  in the area where they nested which we did last year & they went elsewhere. The only problem was that the disc would bang against the wall when it was windy which would wake Ham up as he is a light sleeper. We have now glued the disc to the wall with thick water proof glue. The Martins are late coming over this year but I am presuming the disc will have the same result. They usually arrive here in May & nest in many of the houses near by. I know it will be a while before you can remove the nests this year but my suggestion is to try the discs if you get no satisfaction from Millenium

On the plus side, they do help keep the midgy/fly population in check - think how many insects they need to catch to raise all their chicks.
