Hi everyone
i just read the presidents newsletter message, and noted that something has happened with Copelllas, can anyone enlighten me. I am hoping it's open again for when we are out next in late July as we are bringing family with us.

Coppellas closed at 11pm last night (friday) but might have been due to BBQ at golf pro shop, then read newsletter today:-
"We know that many owners, residents and renters are concerned about the future of Coppolas. We have been in dialogue with IRM, who own Coppolas, to make sure they are aware of owner´s views. There will be changes at Coppolas in the coming days. IRM intend to run it themselves from now on and will need a short period before reopening, probably with a limited selection initially. As we know more, we will inform as quickly as possible."
sorry I don't know any more than that.

We were out there for the month in May and only visited Coppellas on a few occasions. When we did it was not a pleasant or happy experience. On one occasion we went in and were told it was closed - at 10.15 p.m., another occasion we went in and were sat drinking with them mopping the floors around us, another occasion they mopped all round by the bar and closed it off and you could only sit round by the pool table - I really don't want to sit with snooker balls being clattered next to me, it is not easy to chat, which is why the two areas are kept separate (I have no problem with the table being in the bar, it is great entertainment!). On another occasion we went in and they had mopped the raised stage area and put chairs across so we couldn't sit in the comfortable chairs. Another visit ended at 10.30 because we asked for a coffee and a brandy after having a meal and were told the coffee machine was turned off! At this we gave up going in there. We tried to show support, we tried to use it and kept trying, but enough is enough. We heard rumours while we were there (please note these were not confirmed!) that Rafael was in arrears with the rent - which seems to go against him closing up early all the time - surely you would rake in as much as possible if that was the case? The atmosphere in there was not good, it was dark and dingy, and we personally felt that he had given up! Whatever happens I hope they will keep it open, we have met some great people at Coppellas, it is the centre of Terrazas and the first summer it was open was great. We need Coppellas if Terrazas is going to thrive as a community.

We were over at the end of May and went two nights out of three and felt welcomed, although its fair to say that it was by the bar staff and chef rather than the owners. Hopefully it will be resolved as with all the recent sales it must surely be a viable business now. I honestly don't mind the lighting it adds to the atmosphere. But i can see closing early woudl be no fun.

Yes, the closing early is the biggest problem. We don't often go out to eat until 9, so by the time we have finished a meal and had time for it to settle we are being shooed out the door! Cleaning and switching off the coffee machine is annoying! I like to see what I am eating too, and on one occasion we were round by the pool table and it was impossible to see! Also find the closing of the ladies toilets (we had just the disabled toilet to use for the whole month we were there) a little annoying, especially if there were a few of us that wanted to go! I hope they get something sorted and soon.

Thank you for the capital letters - i think everyone here is of the opinion they want to use it. The discussion was started in response to a query i had of whether it had changed hands.
Either way i intend to use it a lot this summer - after all there is rum and coke there ;-)

We certainly used it, when it was open! If we went out to eat and came back at say 10.45 p.m. it was often shut, we planned to call in for a few drinks and a coffee, but couldn't! We used it during the day at times, especially if we were out shopping, we would call in on the way home. Using it isn't the problem, finding it open and the staff happy to serve you is! Friends of ours were in there one Friday night at 10 pm, not long after we set off for home, and people came in asking for cocktails and coffee. There were about 6 people still there, and another 6 walked in. They told them they couldn't do the cocktails because they didn't know how, and there was no coffee as the machine had been switched off! Our friends told them it was ridiculous and to get online and look up the cocktails, and put the coffee machine back on! They did, and by 11 pm there were about 30 people in there, they had the music on, the glitter ball going and everyone was up dancing and of course drinking! Our friends said they had a good 4 hours business out of them, and must have made a bit because they were knocking them back! This is not what everybody wants, but we do want the choice!

Many people have aired there views and bad experiences on here over the last 18 months or so there was a lot a lot going on behind the scenes that can not be spoken about on a public forum for legal reasons , anyway that's water under the bridge now it's time to move forward , IRM do own coppolas and are taking over the running of it I believe they will want it open and trading as soon as possible.
Richard.

Hi all,
Just an update for you re Coppelas. I'm on site at the minute and so went round there to try and establish what the situation was. As far as I've seen it has not closed during the "handover". I spoke to Raphael's barman (via a Spanish Estate Agent who happened to be in the bar aswell), and from what I could gather, Coppelas has never closed, and doesn't intend to close, and is still serving food and drink. They did confirm that there were new owners but they suggested it was a private owner rather than IRM (but who knows what the truth is), and as far as I could tell Raphael was still managing the bar but wasn't present when we went in.
Hope that helps.

Everyone seems to be concerned about Coppola's bar and resto but no-one seems to be able to spell the name correctly....doesn't help people who may like to look the place up on the internet, not that there's much info about it.
