Rental Scam

There appears to be a scam going on for  holiday rentals where price is agreed and payment is arranged by bank draft

the payment made is greater than the rental and a refund for the difference is requested

Dont fully understand your comment

Are you saying that who ever is renting out their apartment agrees a cost but once they have you payment details they take more than they should do. Then when a refund for the difference is requested you dont get the refund.

If thats the case then it is fraud. If you have rented out the apartment or you have the address or web details my advise is to advise Millenium. they will have the owners details & should investigate it for you.

If I was you & I had been scammed i would be posting their contact details etc on EOS to allert others but please make sure its not an innocent mistake first of all

This is a very common scam which is often run out of Nigeria and it doesn't just apply to rental propertues but anything you could be selling, cars, consumer goods etc

The way it works is that they do send a payment, normally by cheque on a fireigmn bank which then appears in you bank account, for a larger amount and it appears in the bank account  but it is uncleared

So you ask for €100, they send you €500, say that they made a mistake and ask you to return the difference

The buyers will then ask you to send the amount of the overpayment back to them, normally but a Western Union transfer and rely on the time difference between the cheque being rejected and received, the payment eventually bounces and you are left out of pocket

In the Summer we proably get one of these every few weeks
