Hi,
Last week a young couple moved in below us and at least one of them is a heavy smoker judging from the tab-ends that appeared on their balcony. They are likely to be locals - their parents came around to help them move in - and therefore I suspect they will be full time residents.
Since they arrived the bathroom regularly stank of cigarettes. (This happened some years ago until a smoker who lived diagonally below moved out.) We have been lucky for the last 3 years but the luck has run out last week!
We also get the smoke wafting onto the balcony from the one below and into the bedroom if there is little wind ! So our balcony will become unusable except when they are at work or maybe ok on those windy days ! Maybe I will get the glass barrier on the balcony?
I know others have had the bathroom smoke experience. Did anyone resolve the problem?
Some years ago the developer came around with my keyholder to look at the issue in the bathroom but of course it was 3pm in the afternoon when the smoker had long gone to work and of corse the developer refused to accept there was any issue.
The smoke must come through rectangular shaped wall vent.
I suspect this problem only impacts on those with occupants who smoke in the bathroom below them.
Maybe the answer is replacing the vent with some kind of one way flow air value? I will do some searching.
regards,
Paul
p.s.
There are some nice extractor fans. e.g. google
Vent-Axia Solo Plus Centrifugal Extractor Fan with or without time or pull code.
The fan would replace the vent cover and not let air inwards so easily. I could mount the fan on a rectanglular plastic sheet so it would look ok.
The challenge is to connect power. Its is low wattage so a cable from the lights would do it but how to get the cable to the fan ? Somehow feed it behind the wall? I will investigate when there next.
