Pig Farms

All,

I have recently purchased on Los Naranjos, and as I understand it there is or was a pig farm located near the resort, is this still the case?

Also, what are your thoughts on the new pig farm proposal that was mentioned in the most recent community minutes.

I was not aware of either so any advice/comment gratefully received.

The news of the pig farm was a surprise to me too. There has always been a goat farm (if you can call it that) on the edge of Condado & visitors will often comment on the smell which is noticable if the wind direction is blowing Condado way. To be honest we have gotten used to it & I know of resedents we say the same.

I gather there is opposition to the pig farm.

Why is it that foregners feel they have the right to prevent a person living in their own country from making a living.

We would scream & shout if similar happened over here. "who are they to tell us what to do in our own country" sounds familiar.

PS if we were buying now it would not put us off. Condado is a great place to live or to have a holiday home

I believe this will be adjacent to Condado and as owned by El Pozo I suspect it will be a good size. From what I understand its the Spanish who are protesting and have brought this to the attention of us foreigners as they want support on this issue! 

If it is the Spanish people who have an issue with the proposed pig farm then I am happy to support them

The local Estate Agents are now advising new purchasers that this is actually Peppa Pig World, a new Park that will rival Disnayland Paris. 

They have used a similar trick in the past pretending that Universal Studios were going to build a nearby park and a new Aiprort wold be opeing.

I think that we as owners on Condado have every right to object to anything that concerns the urbanisation we have all bought into if it is a new proposal.

I dont really want a pig farm next door for several reasons, the smell is only one of them.

What's this all about? I think CDA is surrounded by pig farming activities since ever, maybe the new investment will be more environment friendly as the existing ones do smell sometimes, depending on the wind but this has never put us of to purchase on CDA at all. Hence a great idea to develop now Pepa Pig Park, we have never been that close to get a decent tourist atraction close by to the resort, sure the estate agents will use this in their marketing. As I have heard the lake on Al Kasar will also be transformed into a nature reserve for protected mosquitos this would all add up nicely.

You live in the country so what do you expect.  I would rather have the occasional farm smell wafting than fumes from a city environment.

If El Pozo or even Old MacDonald want to open a pig farm near Condado, all I care about is that the animals are treated well!

If you want to know how bad it can be with a pig farm right next to you - you only have to pay a visit to Fuente Alamo (always smells of pigs)  or Hacienda Del Alamo - the flies are diabolical there and its impossible to sit outside and sunbath or eat food or have a drink - there are literally swarms of  flies around your glass/food in a second... the smell lingers and makes you feel sick. The fly screens do help but you have to be quick when shutting your doors.

Perhaps they could open a fly sanctuary too

Think its to be in the land beyond where the Oasis shopping centre should have been sited. So fairly close to Condado, probably quite big as El Pozo are a big company and local employer. Read of 30,000 pigs ( hoping thats annually) Ml and local council have put in objections but the time for further objections is now closed.
