Hi all,
Well that's it. I have just sold the apartment that was a big part of my dream in the sun.
It was in June 2007 that I put a deposit on one of the Golf Suites. Those of us around then will recall the 5-star resort being developed by Polaris World, a huge development with several town centres, 3 golf courses etc etc. I bought into that dream, but the thin end of the wedge appeared when the Suites phase was cancelled. Never mind, I accepted a 2-bed Penthouse in exchange for the 1-bed suite and my dream was back up and running. In November 2009, my water and electric meters were fitted and it was all systems go. Met many great people the following summer, but only a few around the following Easter. Been out a couple of times since and loved it, but unfortunately turned out to be too hot for the family in summer. Hmm. Paramount came and went and came...... Corvera........ Anyone remember the casino Condado de Vegas? Darren chipped in with Peppa Pig but still waiting. Hmm
So, it's over as an owner - but may well return as a renter.
Good luck to everyone, and I hope the resort grows and goes from strength to strength,

So.sorry to.read that you have made the decision to sell. If I'm.honest I'm.trying to convince my.Husband to.do.the same
I.want.a place on.the Mar Menor golf resort. A hell.of a lot.more expensive but to.date no.pesky flys
They are driving me mad and then.there is the idiot with the bike. Not sure if its one or two.different people
I've been.here 5 weeks with.2 more to.go and have booked flights to return.for 6 weeks.in.September /October. Not sure if I am.going.to.bother.
We have made some great friends here who.we do.manage to catch up with occasionally and I.do.chat to a couple of ladies via fb.but it's just not.the same here anymore. I.wish.you.all.the.very best
Who.knows the opportunity to live.the dream.again just.might.be.around the corner

Thanks for the best wishes Jan.
When I paid my deposit, my kids were 10 and 8, and we were all looking forward to our holidays in the sun. Now they're 18 and 16 and the resort isn't for them. Summer is OK for things to do, but any other time and the resort turns into an urbanisation and they get bored. They don't play golf and there are only so many trips teenagers will put up with.

Yes. I can understand how your children feel. In the early days we bought our goddaughter out with us. Typically at her age she soon made friends with others around the pool. Isn't it great that language etc is never a barrier when they are young. Now at almost 17 there is nothing for her here and hasn't been for a few years now. Oh No Hammie! You are starting to sound like me and nobody wants that! Come to the clover tonight and I will buy you and your lovely man a drink while Suzy G sings her heart out! It's not pippa pig world, but it's all we have!
New world is correct, Mar Menor is the original and best! Also better located for local attractions, I am sure you will be much happier there! Also less flies and bikes!!
like the Keeve said I bought into the original concept, paid a deposit in August 2005 and completed June 2008 (God 7 years already) since then I have spent about 10 weeks at the resort, as it didn't turn out to be what I had hoped. In depreciation terms its probably cost me about €1000 per night, which is far from ideal. And thats the thing stopping me from selling. I rarely use the place (even though I am here now), but can I cash my chips in today and take a 60k hit? With interest rates so low, I think it may be worth keeping the place for a few more years and look to sell when prices picks up a little. Or is that just a pipe dream like Peppa Pig, Paramount and Corvera?

Hi theKeeve
Sorry to see you go,
Yes, we do have a problem really onsite trying to entertain the teenagers and the resort through no fault of the residents is far cry from what was promised. One of the big issues for me now is the story around the soccer pitches and the golf course. The pitches, which would have been useful for the teenagers, have no largely been abandoned with no future in sight. The golf course is largely run now for the minority with no Golf Pro onsite so that we cannot even get an academy up and running to entertain the teenagers during the summer months. I have given up now on the soccer pitches, someday in the future they will be used to house another row of penthouses or villas as they are close to the town centre. There is also little interest that I can see by the community in getting this resource restored. This later one is disappointing considering the resource on our doorstep and what is on offer on MMGR and La Torre. I have been in contact with IRM ( for 2 years now) on the MMGR to see if they would consider sending a golf professional down so that we can at least offer something alternative to entertain the teenagers during the summer months. It would even consider some lessons myself with others if something solid was on offer. We have used an offsite professional the last few years but this year he is not available. It would be great if our community could assist to at least gage if there is interest. In the meantime as you said there is only so many trips you can bring the kids on. I’m afraid we will stay in a holding pattern now with a downward pressure on property prices until the Airport opens and there is some lift in development. Hopefully some of us will be alive to see the result as I fear it is some years away.

Having only been an owner on the resort for two years and being delighted with the purchase it's disappointing to read nab out people wanting to leave as the place hasn't lived up to the expectation. It's understandable for those who bought into the original Polaris dream but what we have really isn't so bad and I think it will get better.
We love our visits out, it's very peaceful and relaxing but I'd love to see more things come to the resort to make it even better for everyone.

Cor blimey Darren. Never though you and I would meet
My lovely man arrived here today. I've been here for 5 weeks with two more to go. We didn't plan to go to the Clover this evening but if you are serious about meeting up I'm sure I can get Ham to agree to spend an hour or two later. You cant miss him he is the one with a better tan than me despite the weather being craP on the UK. It's a racial thing I suppose. Incidentally he loves it here it's me who wants to go elsewhere
