Little known fact but people don't realise that the perimeter road of all golf resorts including Condado, La Torre, RODA amd where I live Corvera are PUBLIC riads and therefore bound by all of the normal traffic laws, including those governing drink driving, in fact as one resort the Police one day setup a stop point, inside the resort, for tests for drink driving and knicked a few
The Presidents and resort management can do a lot, a simple conversation with Police Local to perhaps setup a few checks to deter people, there is no excuse for drink driving, especially in built up golf resorts

NO I didnt.
I have just stated a fact, what do you want ML and the Presidents to do about it??
We have informed the Guardia Civil and security are told to report all traffic issues to the Police!
ps: Dont call me a nob again!!!

It's strange how the drink drive rules go out of the window with some folk when they are in someone elses country. The grey area of driving on community roads should come down to pure common sense, but as most of us are aware, it's in short supply with the 'do as I say, not what I do' brigade, all that I can come up with is 'name and shame.'

I'm with you Barri and hopefully most respectable law abiding owners in Condado agree.
Unfortunately there does seem to be a culture of drink driving that some feel is acceptable and/or can get away with on the inner perimeters on the way back to their apartments from a night/day out in Al Kasar.
However, from what I have observed over this past weekend it seems that it is so NOT always the one-off holiday-maker/tourist that residents and non-residents alike tend to and very often like to blame each and every time there is an incident. A large percentage of the problem is most definately from those living and working on-site and yes at a tmes a REAL every day occurence.
Ironically and very disappointing is that the minute such incidents by/from onsite workers/residents are proven as in this weekends atrocious event at the first roundabout on the way to the Jardins from Al Kasar, suddenly the owners of the relevant Facebook sites decide to remove the articles not once but TWICE, rather than expose someone we all know, without any explanation or closure. This is so NOT acceptable and sends out the wrong message.
So alas Hephaestus, unfortunately it does look like your 'name and shame' wisdom does not apply under such circumstances, ie when it's one of your own so to say, and shame on both the FB sites for removing the posts without fully explaining what really happened.........................

Most expats now residing in Spain started off as holiday makers in Spain, they are the guys who would never consider having a brandy with their morning coffee when in the UK. Retirees in Spain are on one long holiday and have the freedom to do as they wish, when I'm in Spain I use a hire car to get me from and back to the airport along with supermarket trips, I can manage not to drink alcohol prior to getting in the car, why some can't is a mystery to me.

For those of us (most of us) who do not know what is going on, can someone please explain?
From this thread, it appears that there may have been an incident involving a round about and a drunk resident?
I do feel that with a lot of these threads, the majority of readers are left in the dark, while 4 or 5 people "in the know", have a little arguement.
I am not on Facebook, so would someone please explain, ideally with pictures, what, where, when, why & who?
Finally, who pays for the repairs? The drunk driver or the community fee payers? I would imagine their insurance is invalid?

I actially object to the comment that UK retirees are on onelong holidya and can do what they want
It is very easy to be stopped at a rooadblcok and checked and nobody should drink drive, an any coumtry and the limit in Spain is lower than in the UK

Ironic really that EOS now have a drinkdrivingsolicitor co uk banner advert flashing up on this topic - it's as if they too approve of 'drink driving' - a UK company of solicitors advertising that they will get you off for drink driving.
Surely attitudes have to change - drink driving is so NOT acceptable anywhere - NO EXCUSES no matter who are where you are..........................

Darren,
The sign at the pedestrian crossing before the roundabout near J13 was totally wiped out together with several of the miniture palms. From what was visible in the way of rubber scuff marks on the kerb edges this was done by a car travelling from the direction of the Al Kasar towards jardines...............very fast. I did not notice any damage walking back to apartment just after midnight on Saturday, but it was evident on Sunday morning when cycling down to the supermarket. God forbid anyone was attempting to cross the road at the time!!
I have seen previous instances of similar events with photographs on the resort reports ML send out. It seems we pay for the damage via the community insurance. It sounds like certain people know who the perpitrator is in this case. I would hope they are held accountable and persued for the money to repair damage. Prosecution is another matter.
Regards,

Oh my god! Just seen the photos! I never imaginged a Seat Ibiza could go that fast to cause so much damage!
Just glad there were no pedestrians around, or someone could have been seriously injured or even killed.
