Hi all

I was on site yesterday and spent time talking with the security guys. They were previously informed that the work will be completed by September lastest but they believe it will be completed in August.  They are not allowed to let people on site except on weekdays when the sales team are about, but I managed to get a quick unescorted look around and so I have stored some photos on the link below.

http://community.webshots.com/user/Tomjohnston61?vhost=community

Virtually all work to the exterior of the buildings are completed except the set of town houses in front of block 5 which are a long way off being ready. On the other buildings it seems its now just some tidying up. The landscaping is not completed yet but the hard landscpaing is pretty much done. The roads are not down,  its still just dirt tracks. Seems all the windows are in and its not a big job to tidy up the rubble thats about.  Aircons are installed in many of the flats and the units are on the balconies.

I went into a few of the townhouses by the pool and the finish seems good - big bright open rooms and though its hard to see from the photos due to dust etc close up the quality looks as good if not better than I expected. There are some external  "feature" brick and wood aspcts that seem really quite poor quality, but I am hoping that these are things that will be tidied up in snagging later on - they are just a bit "rough around the edges" and maybe a clean up will sort them out.

The plumbing and wiring seem to be close to complete and some bathrooms are in - again hard to see in the dusty pictures but seems to be ok quality. No light fittings but its normal in Spain that owners take possession without lighting being fitted. No kitchens were in the town houses I saw but the security guys said many of the kitchens are in the flats now but I could not get in to see them.

I am not a developer so can only guess on these things but it doesnt feel like September is an impossible date for completion but I think it will be tight.  For those fans of Ikea you might be pleased to hear that the new store by the airport, at Plaza Mayor  will open mid September and so there are lots of offers from the established suppliers of the complete furnishing package - I have been to see many of them, the bottom and mid range packages are generally good value but really quite awful quality, especially on crockery, cutlery, hoovers etc . Dont buy without seeing what you are getting.

And yes Sandra, your crane is still there - its being used to bring in material for those town houses in front of block 5

Tom

Hi Tom,

Another great set of  'photos and you've managed to get three of  our apartment , Thankyou.

We have managed to get a flight to Malaga this weekend and I've sent an email to SMD  requesting a viewing of our apartment. No reply so far, but as you say, it may be possible if the sales office is manned mid-week.

We are hoping to take some measurements of windows etc., as I want to furnish the apartment with   items from our current home. I agree when you say the quality of the items in some of  the furniture packs can be improved upon, so I expect I will buy the beds etc., in the UK and ship them over with the furniture. Light fittings and appliances will have to be purchased in Spain.

We all hope that September is a possble completion date as we have waited so long, I just hope that work done by the previous developers has not left us with long snagging lists. You mentioned the external wood and brick finishes and yes I agree they look as if they need cleaning/painting. I'm sure there must be quite a few 'touching up' jobs required to the paintwork before the builders leave.

I'll try and get some internal 'photos of our apartment to add to our combined albums, and possibly a few more of my crane!!

Have fun in Malaga, its good weather out here now - was 38 degrees inland Saturday but really very nice on the coast.

Don't know if you know, but there is a very good British bed shop just down the road from the apartments. Its called "the british bed company" -  its run by a very nice British family and they have a good range at good prices. Its on the small industrial development just before you go under the M-way on the road up from Fuengirolla on the right hand side after some open spaces. There is a hand written sign thats easy to miss!!!!

They used to be based closer to Fuengirolla on the access road off the motorway, so pop in and have a look if it's something you'd consider buying locally. They were a "rose amongst thorns" when I looked for furniture suppliers last year.

The security guys told me someone is always on site Tuesday to let you have a look around, so if you can go then, that might be best.

Tom

Sandra - I agree with Tom. You can get Furniture packs of various qualities. So dont be tempted to buy furniture from the UK unless you absolutely have to. I am sure you will find some extremely good quality furniture locally in Spain. I have heard that the headaches of getting stuff packed and shipped from the UK can be very painful and can also have breakages in transit.
