Hi Everyone

Someone has mentioned this on one of the forums before but has anyone gave any consideration to installation of air con units. From our perspective we favour this being done as soon as possible so the appartment is ready to move into and minimise the mess that is created. Additionally there must be some benefits in trying to attract a group discount if a number of appartments are willing to  purchase the air con units at the same time. This is just one aspect where we could all club together to save some money, garden furniture was another that was mentioned as well previously. We are going out to Mojacar at half term (23 Oct) with a Dec handover date ? it would be useful to progress this item sooner rather than later.

Any views

Hi John and Pam. I think the problem here is that it depends who you are buying through and how actively they market extras such as air con. We decided at the start that we could not manage without it, so arranged for installation of hot and cold air con as an extra, through Atlas. For those who have not done so, group negotiation would sound like a very sensible option! Bri and Linda 3b

Hi John and Pam,
We were going to look at getting air-conditioning units installed after we had taken possession but I guess there's benefits in doing some up-front research and clubbing together to get possible group discounts.
Having scoured other sites, there are a number of local firms to approach for quotes - here are some examples from the Costa Almeria forum :

1. "ring steve @Thermal Breeze excellent service and price.
Price depends on whether u want a cheap spanish one or something like mitsubishi and the size of the rooms.
His tel no is 950456877"

2. "The people I used are MD Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration for my instalation, they only specialise in this work and we are very happy with their work.
You can reach them on (0034) 607364917 or (0304) 607366040."
See details on Viva-Almeria site.or http://www.mdair-conditioning.com/ (latter not very helpful)

3. "We used Snowfire, a very nice chap called Chris. He has fitted a few on our development at Los Gallardos. He was very good. Cleaned up all the mess. Was very reasonable and efficient. We are very pleased with them. He also came an fitted a safe for us and a few neighbours as well. Check local papers for his adverts.950 475 899"

4. "We just had 3 units fitted by JW air-sat from Mojacar Playa
We were more than happy with there quality and prices, they even fitted a dish with sky box at last minute notice.
All in one day too"

Prices will also depend on what quality of units you want as there's quite a difference apparently.

John & Pam, as far as pre-installation is concerned I think you have missed the boat. The wiring etc is already done & I don't think BMS will redo at this late stage?

We have paid for preinstallation but still need the unit installed on the roof. Not sure if there would be group discount for this part - I think it is only around €500?

We've just had a flying visit out - apts look great, full update & photos tonight hopefully!

I find this matter quite confusing.

We were definitely told by Parador that air-con pre-installation was standard and included in the property purchase price but that we would need to then buy and have fitted a control unit, probably costing some 200 euro.

We have just received a quote via Parador for supply and installation that shows 3 standard units at 2,397 euro or 3 class A inverter units at 3,097 euro.  This does make quite a difference to the budget!

I need to get back to Parador to check things out and just keep my fingers crossed that the pre-installation is/was done as promised.

Hi Terry - I think it is very confusing. According to the sales brochure - all apartments come with pre installation, but I think this only means the wiring is there - a bit like wiring/plumbing for a dishwasher, leaving you to buy the units. The cost of these seems to vary a lot, and it does in the end add quite a bit onto the budget. I think we paid about 3500 or maybe 4000, and this was supposed to be for very good units from a well known manufacturer - we did have a choice of units, and it did vary, but we were not offered anything as low as 200 Euros per unit. Atlas actually advised us to wait until we had the apartment, as 'extras' might delay completion - but I cannot even contemplate no air con so we went ahead and ordered the installation. Hope this helps to clarify. Linda

Hi Terry & all.

As others have said the pre-installation is the wiring, this confused us at first. For convenience we ordered from B.M.S. all hot / cold units.

3 x1750 Fuji @695 E each---1 x3000 @900E =2985 E

Since ordering we have seen all sorts of prices bandied about which at times has made us feel foolish Now we,re told that the heating will not be adequate for the cold winter nights,so have ordered central heating. Can feel that bottomless pit approaching.I,m sure that the Parador prices are wrong-i hope.

T.V--a post on another E.O.S.forum has quoted great contract prices for comprehensive number of satellite channels.

Ali & Ken ,can,t wait to see your up date&photos thanks.

Regards Haydn & Judy.

Hi All

When we agreed to sign with Parador we were definately advsied that the appartments included pre installation air conditioning. I have just had a look at the HN sales brochure, on the list of features it includes "pre-installation of A/C in bedrooms and salon". When the Parador rep let us have a look at the show house at the front end of HN, it had the wires/pipes coming out of the walls. The rep explained that it was just a case of buying the units for the rooms and the chiller for the outside. At that stage he did give usa ridiculously low indication of the price which in hindsight was just a selling tactic.

As regards central heating I swapped e mails in June 06 with Michelle at BMS, so although I appreciate it may be too late now I would be interested to know if anyone has ordered central heating after this date. When I contacted  Michelle she told me that it was too late. In hindsight we should have ordered at the time we signed, never mind !!. Perhaps I'll contact Michelle to obtain a price for installation of air con.

Cheers

Hi

Have been reading up about air-con units. Is there anyone else who is waiting to put units in after completion. That is what we have decided and wanted to know if anyone has had any prices lately and if group negotiation would be beneficial. We are due to complete on 28th of this month and will be in Spain until 3 April.

Regards

Natalie

Yes, Natalie, we will be arranging for dual air conditioning after completion (not til later in April) and hope to get a good price from a local installer.  No quotes yet though.  I know of at least one other apartment planning the same so we may well get a good price if we all book the work together.  Just a case of co-ordinating between us and putting our negotiating heads on.

Good luck for 28 March.  Hope all goes well.  It's great to know that the first residents are in now!

Hi

We are also having air conditioning installed once we get out there so we would be very interested in getting a group discount, as far as satelite TV i did make enquiries a while ago and at the time was offered a group discount to provide 1 dish with four feeds to each block of four appartments . I still have the quotes if anyone is interested

We are also intending to get air-conditioning installed once we've completed - we may not have time to arrange anything on our completion trip (not sure when that is at the moment - probably end April) but are definitely interested in the possibilities of getting a group discount.

Getting Older´s avatar

I obtained the following prices from dmatch recently:

Small/Medium Bed €680

Large bed / small lounge €850

Med lounge €890

Large lounge €1585

These are for LG units which are not the cheapest but come with a 7 yr guarantee on compressor. The cheaper units (Fuji?????) have a 2 yr guarantee but seem to be troublesome, so we will probably go for LG, but obviously would like to get cheaper than this!

They also quoted €590 to fit a satellite dish and supply a receiver and sky card,. This allows tons of UK channels including BBC, ITV and basic sky channels. Seems to be more reliable than the mesh system.

Will be interested to see quotes for the same things from other stores as these are probably the products we want.

We also had a recent quote from Dmatch for the LG units, which was Small/medium bedroom 660. € would require 3, and 860€ for 1 medium lounge, then if sat tv installed at same time 499€. There seems to be differences already so a bit of group negotiation would be better, we are not expecting to complete until after Easter, so would hope to sort out on this visit, depending on time.

Well we have just had a bit of a disappointment re air conditioning.  Having paid for our units about A YEAR AGO so that all would be ready on completion - we have just been told that they will not be installed until after we have completed.  We almost certainly paid over the odds for having them installed in advance - and now it is not in advance.  HOwever, we are nearly there, and it is very exciting.

Best wishes, Linda

Linda & Brian, did you order the AC through your agent?  If so, it might be worth noting that when Parador gave us a quote for AC they offered a 10% refund if it was not fitted by the time of completion.
