Hi Noreen and all,

One of our neighbours who will not be attending the meeting has asked if a common barbecue area could be created somewhere within the grounds.  Sorry it is such short notice, or will it be something that will have to be bought up at a following meeting?

Or has this subject already been discussed?

 What does everone think?

Thanks

On paper, this would provide a number of possible positives. It would give the community a focal-point/meeting place, a place for those people who do not have the blessing of large terraces to be able to enjoy a barbeque without having to sacrifice precious, limited outdoor space, a safe, controlled enviroment (with the addition of a fire-extinguisher) etc.,

On a negative side, would the barbeque be fired by gas or wood? Both require repleneshment, one certainly needs to be cleaned up after usage, would the barbeque be of a "fixed" type (ie: brick-built), or would owners have to provide their own portable equipment? Where would the barbeque area be situated? Would owners whose property would be in close proximity to the area be happy with the smoke and fumes, not to mention the noise which comes with people having a good-time? Would tables and chairs be provided, and as such, would these be of the "fixed" type or removable? (if removable, where would they be stored?)

A great amount of food (preferably barbequed) for thought! And all before the community meeting.

Please note that I am not against the idea, and with the summer fast approaching it is an issue that will need addressing sooner rather than later.

Regards,

Lorraine Braid.

Agree - a lot to think about but in principal not a bad idea.  I think the community is crying out for a facility where people can meet up "after hours" if they want to, particularly over the next "x" years while we wait to see if the the shops etc. planned near Pueblo Salinas materialise.

On a related point, I think in an old thread it had been suggested that the provision of tables and chairs around the spa area would be a good idea and provide a social, focal point where people could go without lugging their sun loungers everywhere with them!  There was also discussion about vending machines etc.  The latter maybe something for a later date due to issues re maintenance and could be linked to the whole issue surrounding spa management.  However the tables and chairs should be a relatively easy thing to fix.  Also - the promotional literature clearly showed poolside furniture - artistic licence it may be, but nevertheless would add to the ambience.

What do people think - one for (lower down) next Saturday's agenda?

The rules of the Community, as I understand it, specifically ban barbecues within Communal properties on both the grounds of safety and the possible cause of nuisance to others. I would have thought that the same criteria would be applied to a communal barbecue.

For those who wish to enjoy a barbecue without annoyance to other neighbours, there is an excellent picnic/barbecue facility, I assume provided by the Community of Vera, in an area directly opposite the Zimbali Hotel. This was being made extensive use of last summer by families on holiday.

I have been reading that the community can vote on the installation of BBQs. However, if anyone objects then they would be able to voice that objection through the Shared Property Law.

My thoughts about a communal area being designated for BBQs is - who is going to clean up the mess? clean the BBQ etc. With the best will in the world, I think we all know that people do not respect this type of facility & it would possibly lead to cockroaches, flies, rats etc if not cleaned properly.

With regard to the issues for "low down" on the agenda next week, please be aware that anything discussed as part of "any other business" cannot be voted on next week. An extraordinary general meeting would need to be called.

Noreen

I think a communal bbq is fraught with difficulties, especially in terms of clearing up.

We stayed on Resort last year for our snagging trip and then our completion trip and in the rules it said that charcoal bbq's were not allowed as they were doomed a fire hazard.

The owners there however overcame the problem by buying out door gas cookers!!!
