NEARLY all the properties at Trampolín Hills golf resort in Campos del Río have been sold – even though the building project has not yet been approved by the Murcia regional government. Nearly 2,450 villas and apartments are planned – and many have been purchased by British and Irish buyers.The sales campaign started in 2005 when a show home was given away as part of a competition run on Channel 4’s Richard and Judy show in conjunction with Amanda Dean’s ‘Another Place in the Sun’.
However in 2008 the rural land has still not been reclassified by the town hall after problems were flagged up by the regional government.According to Socialist party councillor for town planning in Campos del Río, Esteban Giménez, the town hall sent back the corrections for the scheme on March 13.“I think all irregularities have been sorted out,” he said.“The streets are now wider and the development has the water supply guaranteed by the River Segura Water Confederation, as required.
“We expect to get the approval from the regional government soon in order to issue the building licence.” The councillor added the town hall wanted to see the project go ahead.“The resort is a great opportunity for the village,” he said.“We are only 2,000 people now and it will bring the village to life.”
However both the regional government and town hall have denied having any responsibility over the properties which have already been sold.“The town hall would only be responsible if unlicensed properties had been built,” Sr Giménez said.“The sales strategies are the company’s responsibility.”However he admitted the company would be involved in a major social problem if the scheme was not finally approved by the regional government.
The promoter has been carrying out work at the site for the last several months and palm trees have been planted, the slopes of the hills have been modified and roads of sand have been constructed.The councillor admitted the company had been carrying out more earthworks than allowed.“A sanctioning file has been opened by the town hall because the company was not allowed to do this many earthworks”, he said.A source of the company said they would start building work as soon as the regional government had approved the scheme and the town hall had issued the building licence.“We have the bricklayers waiting” the source said.The first phase is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year and phases two and three within two years.
Popular Party councillor Miguel Buendía said his party would take legal action against the mayor over the handling of the development project.According to the councillor the corrections for the scheme should have been voted in at a full council meeting.“The mayor and another councillor are not allowed to vote because they had sold several properties in the resort,” he said.“We want to take the mayor to court so that he can explain to the judge some irregularities about the resort.”However Estéban Giménez explained that the mayor had left his post in a real estate company to stand for the position.“The scheme was approved by the former council,” he said“The current mayor has no interests in this scheme.”
