We´ve seen a sign for an English supermarket for awhile now...anyone know when it will open? And who are the supposed Italian owners of the shop spaces?
Thanks in advance,
E.

Hi Chazepping

The sing has been there for alomost a year now,  i can't see it opening anytime soon,  nothing has changed in months and i have not seen anyone there,
Im over in June and will ask the letting agents next door if they know anything...

I heard an Italian firm bought all the units, i guess they are struggling to get any rented out...

Would be nice if we had a few shops and a few restuarants to eat in...

Cheers

Rob

Just back and it's still closed. Two weeks ago a friend was told it was opening in two weeks... Apparently it's full of freezers with stuff in them. Hope the sell by dates are long. The new Mercadona building, in the direction of Estepona, has risen from the ground in the middle of a mass of new roads. What is going on there? Far too many roads for the size of supermarket.

Hi Liz

The new supermarket has been built for the new Golf complexes that are going on behind
and where the new roads will link too also

If new English shop is full of shelves and food, that is good news as it was totally empty last month..

Im going over on Monday

Cheers

Rob..

I just got back from Galera and took a look at the supermarket. There is indeed some merchandise in there (crates of Stella) but not much else. With the Mercadona progressing well I'm not sure it will open.

Thought the whole Galera complex was looking fine especially Costa

I agree. The road junction at the roundabout by the new Mercadona is MASSIVE isn't it? The golf developments must be very extensive too.  I agree, I can't see our shops doing anything for a long time. In the USA there'd be a nail and beauty parlour, bar, real estate office, bread and cakes and some odd specialities like surfboard repair. And they'd thrive. Odd.

Pity about the shops as it makes the whole entrance look shabby, especially with the piling up rubbish that no one is taking away because it's not been handed over to the town hall officially.

Hi all

Looks like the English supermarket has not changed since i was last over,  im flying over 2moz for a weeks break, will report back next week..

Looks like the roads around the new supermarket are really just for the huge build and golf thats is going on behind and will probably link estepona golf with Valle ramero golf too... If you go up to Estepona golf you can see how much work is going on, same if you drive up Valle Ramero drive...

Our shops look real bad,  nothing is being done, PH2 of Galera Park is finished but no one is clearing up the mess left behind, looks like a long road ahead,  Spain is in dire trouble and there inflation has hit 5%...

rocky road for all at mo :-(

Hi Liz,

I have just got back from Costa Galera and unfortunately still no progress with the shops. Its a shame as they are all finished and just waiting to be occupied. Hopefully they will eventually be occupied!

Are many of the apartments at Galera park now occupied?

I have also noticed that there are roads being built on the hillside opposite the entrance of the country club (by the kids play area). Any idea where they will eventually lead to?

Thank you. Shame about the shops. The big road network opposite is accessed opposite Galera Park, behind Jardines de Galera (the orangey coloured apartments) and also through Buenos Noches. Trees have been planted, further children's play area, street lighting and zebra crossings are all there ready for a massive property development. But nothing has happened since the roads went in nearly a year ago.

Coming up the other side of the hill towards it, is a big road off the Casares Road. So it may all be developed one day between the Country Club and the Casares road,

That being said, it will be a long time, only half of the houses in Galera Park (35 or so of 77) have been sold and I don't know about the 30 apartments of Phase lll (I don't think any)

Hi Liz,

I really hope they dont develop on that land - we have enough apartments as it is! Who told you it was going to have massive development there?

Are they still trying to sell Galera Park? I think they look nice from the outside. They just need to finish some of the gardens and get some more buyers to form the community etc and I think it could be a very nice development. What they like inside?

thanks

Alex

Didn't mean to alarm you about development. It's just that I've walked along all the roads they've built up there and you can see from the planted areas and non planted areas that they are designed to have buildings between them in the non-planted bits! They could be villas as in Buenos Noches. That would be quite nice. I just assumed more apartments! Maybe the way the economy is they will never happen. Weeds are already taking over the paths. La Galera Park houses are unusual in that each one has a private lift from the basement garage to the bedrooms. They are three beds, 2 bath and a downstairs loo. Big fully fitted kitchen (Bosch fridge freezer, ceramic hob, hood, washer and dishwasher. A big dining/living room on to the terrace. What most people notice is the lovely marble on the floors and stairs and the ensuite bathroom. So yes they are nice. The more expensive ones at the back, strangely, have a smaller living room, but, I think, an extra bedroom instead of the flat roof solarium. It's such a shame about the unoccupied gardens making the place look a mess. The community is trying to get the developer to change its mind and do something about them.

Hi Liz / Callal

I have just come back from a week at costa galera,  super weather, around 25'C each day, last day it was raining heavy but hey we were on way to airport :-)  we had a great week,  complex was quite busy for this time of year, met my usual neighbours etc etc

The English super market is weeks away from opening...The Rental company next door has closed,  sign saying please contact head office this office is temporary closed...no surprise there... shame about other shops not opening...

The NEW MERECARDO supermarket opened on the 31st Oct, looks nice inside,   also the housing complexes behind are flying up, serious work going on,  the roads are nearly done too...Valle Romaro seems to be over the illegal trouble and is also moving forward...

I cannot see the PLAY AREAS up the hill nexct to CG having there land being built on,  the roads have had major work this last week, most have had sections near drains  dug up and looks like new pipes put in, all have been relaid,  if you look closly all the land has landscaped areas and then wasteland beyond,  all pavements are in and they would have to be dug up for builders to turn land into houses or apts, it's just an area for people to come to with kids and park there cars...noticed alot of these near new developments..

The new roads to left of play areas lead up to a new development that looks onto the back of the  ' Finca Cortesin Golf Course '  - i took a walk up there,  roads don't go anywhere else,  just loop back and go down the the new white apts that look out to see between our round about and the Caseras one.

La Galera Park Phase 2 apartments have been finished for nearly a year now,  no one seems to be moving in,  the swimming pool is full of dirty water but grass and plants around it are done,  they fence seperating it from the townhouses is up....

SADLY the mess is getting worse across the road from GP apts, seems people have been dumping anything and everyrhing,  i saw 2 guys Spanish guys come out of GP PH2 apts and dump loads of  cardboard on waste land,  so i took a walk,  there i saw, clothes, shoes, matresses, water bottles, bags of rubbish etc etc dumped, adding to the builders waste from before, luckily the weeds and tree like plants are covering it over, but it looks so bad,  there was a pallet of marble on side street, that has now been dumped and it all smashed into pieces... My CG apt has views of all this,  i spent ages trying to clear up area in front of me,  builders just upped and left, also left the huge hole in earth, hope it grrows over...

I also saw a hose pipe running from a town house through new fencing into GP PH2 apts,  so i guess there is no water..

One thing i have noticed and maybe LIZ can advise,  Galera Park has NO street lighting,  they have NO lights on there side of development ( main road leading to CG Coutntry Club ) and no lighting on there road that leads down to GP PH2 apts, it's soooooooo dark there at night.

The Galera development the right of CG country club has no had nothing going on for last 10 months,  looks like developer has gone bust or it's illegal,  sales office is closed and not seen anyone there, they do have a security guard but i guess thats for all the building supplies on site...

I'll be harding back in Dec,  maybe for a month..

Cheers

Rob

Re the development that ground to a halt facing the country club. I think that is Balcones de Galera and I put a post on that forum back in the summer. The last notice in the sales office window is a couple of years old so they obviously ran into some sort of trouble. Maybe planning?

Have a good time if you go down Rob

Hiya Liz

I searched for 'Balcones de Galera ' forum on here but can't find one ??

The development did grind to a halt, i don't think they sold many and i heard unless a certain amount  are sold in Spain the can't continue, weather thats true i don't know... what i can say is that earlier this year a NEW contruction company put up a huge sign ' VELA Construction ' so i think complex was sold....

I hope it finishes and it was flying up, would be done by now, they just need to skim the outside and paint them white then do the interiors...it will look great once done, if not it will be a shame just sitting there...

I wonder if they english supermarkrt is open, they said a few weeks last time i was there...

Regarding your PH1 & PH2 unsold houses and apts, i wonder where there trying to sell them, not much info on web...

Question for you, do you know why Galara Park street lights are not on ??

Looking forward to going over for xmas, just hope it nice, last year Estepona had serious storms and flooded and we came down with the flu and and had to fly home on 27th, i was then wiped out for 10 days...

Cheers

Rob

Re street lights. I was told , but only chit chat, that the town hall won't adopt the street lighting until the adjacent development is completed and signed off officially. And that at that point the developer pays something to the town hall (to cover installation or something). I was given the impression that it's in a developer's interest to NOT finish when there aren't buyers. So although our development got its certificate of first habitation (unless that was a con!), the flats won't have. Or it maybe to do with the shops (same developer I believe). Maybe they aren't signed off. That would also explain why the town hall hasn't taken over the rubbish bins by the shops. Good luck with weather/flu. Can't strike twice.

Re Balcones de Galera. Try "Go to Public Site"/ Offplan forums/ then write in Search box "Galera" . About 8 variations that include the word Galera crop up (a couple out of our district)
