Hi goodstitch,
I totally agree with your post, but I certainly don't agree with redsam's rude comments to you.

yes, It's horrible isn't it ,when people like redsam feel they have to reply to an opinion with personal insult, but if someone feels footballers wages are not way out of proportion and it's ok that they are still paid vast amounts even when they fail, (much like some in the banking world), because 'that's how business works'', then insulting people because they don't have much spare money, or for really just wanting a fairer society, doesn't really suprise me.
A bit of good news today for the UK. On the news this morning, it was repoted that the 'black hole' in the pension system is better than thought, and though still a long way to go, is in a much better position than this time last year.

It is just as horrible and rude when some one posts what is a little bit of good news to him, his family and many many thousands of others that the best you can do is immediately knock it.
It is also extremely rude and insulting to call someone a ''pretty boy'' when you know absolutely nothing about him and have never met him.
Even worse, to suggest that he has failed is not only rude and insulting to him and his family but is totally untrue. He is at the peak of his profession, in the top 10 footballers in the world, just won the world cup and looking forward to next season with probably one of the most successful football clubs in the world....if that is failing what do you regard as successful.
I don't know what you mean about his wages being out of proportion, that is what his employers pay him, they think he is worth it so what are you comparing his wages to?
Why when some one posts what is a little bit of good news to them can you not just accept it? Your good news about pensions is great for you, does not mean much to me but I am happy for you and am certainly not going to knock it or call the (over paid) pension fund managers pretty boys etc.
It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.

steve and anita - Actually he was injured....but I suppose both of you are always brilliant at what you do and never have a bad spell.
And that is not what my post was about I was simply pointing out to goodstich that he was a successful person.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Erm...
I'm sorry to say the you are wrong about Fernando Torres, he did 'play' in the World Cup, as can be seen from these stats at the Official FIFA World Cup 2010 website.
He played in 7 matches for a total of 291 minutes and I believe he played well as a 'team' player, hence why he didn't score himself, but the team won.

yes, he was rubbish. The UK team also. They came back from the world cup after a dismal display, to their mega wages, and then swan off on holiday, while those who had given up their summer holidays and paid a huge amount to go and support England in S.Africa, just came back with nothing but memories of a team who just didn't put their heart and soul in to winning, because they didnt have to!. How many of them are out of a job for being rubbish?, or will take a pay cut, or give up their holiday?.
With letting down their fans so badly, while still earning mega-bucks, I don't think it would even have hurt the team to subsidise the flights home or at least make some contribution or gesture of goodwill somehow?. It wouldn't happen of course because sadly, football is now often more about stardom, greed and excess than the sport and the supporters who follow them. Rooney's sarcasm to the fans when they bood the team's hopeless perfeormance spoke volumes.

Maybe we need to start another thread: "If you want to insult other forum members, please do so here"?
Redsam, I wouldn't worry too much about Fernando Torres' hurt feelings, as I suspect he is far too busy to read the EOS forums!
The good news in the UK is that John's son had a fantastic time in South Africa even though the football didn't live up to his expectations....! He did moan a bit though about being dragged off immediately he got back for a week's camping with his wife and young daughter! Talking about good news, a friend posted a link to an article about Team GB´s medal haul from Barcelona. I guess that is also good news in Spain?

PS We had agreed to meet friends on Saturday night then realised that we would miss Jessica Ennis running 800m and Mo Farah in the 5K. Luckily the guy behind the bar agreed to switch on the big screen so we could watch Teledeportes!

yes, our athletes certainly did us proud.
I thought Jessica Ennis in particular was a great ambassador for the UK team. She has it all going on!. On top of a real will to win, she has talent, style, looks, figure and a lovely open smile. Roll on the London Olympics!

Suemac - One of the reasons for what you call insults result from some of the replies made in response to a particular post.
I posted, what to me and many others was a piece of good news that Torres had committed his future to LFC only to have it rudely and thoughtlessly jumped on by goodstich calling him ‘an overpaid pretty boy’. There was just no need to do this....none!
I don’t and won’t attack her good news and even if Jessica Ennis has a bad spell, finishes last or fails to please the crowd I won’t say a word.
Nor will I attack your good news about John’s son or Team GB´s medal haul from Barcelona. On the contrary keep the good news coming.
And I am not in the least bit worried about Fernando Torres' hurt feelings.

The thread and posts today make me think !!
Most sport is subjective and if you air your comments you must expect an alternative veiwpoint, and not winge when that happens
Wether Torres staying at Liverpool is Good News in the UK is debatable GB doing well in athletics would give more people a feel good factor
But to waste so much time and energy with a ping pong of verbals, borders on playground behaviour
Why can't we get back to an adult type forum with threads of some usefullness
Anyway somebody give him his ball back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Explain please Justin, this was an intelligent factual and non confrontational reply, I am at a loss as to why it has been deleted. And I would have liked David to have read it despite his rude comments having seen it deleted. I don't regret saying anything that I believed to be the truth, but I do regret anything that I might have said that could have been used in a way to foster an atomsphere that led you to delete the post.

Hi everybody
I agree with redsam on this one. I read his post last night, and I cannot recall anything in it to merit being deleted (unless he added something after I read it!) certainly compared to many other posts that I have read. However let's get back to the theme of this thread rather than bickering. We want good news in the UK posted here, and as redsam is a Liverpool fan and thinks Fernando Torres is a good player he was obviously delighted with what Torres said. It was good news for redsam (and for John's son David who supports Liverpool and their many other fans!) End of story (or it should have been!)
Anybody else got some good news in the UK?
Sue

It rained in London (Harrow) yesterday so I won't have to water my parched plants today! Now that is good news
And it is sunny today, but not unbearably hot.

On the Anglia news this morning, it's reported that EVERY club in the east region has reported a loss. The reason?, high wage bills taking 80% of the clubs income.
The good news?, well as high wage bills are not only being recognised as obscene but are also 'bad' business for many clubs, hopefully highlighting the issue on national TV might bring about change?
Do we encourage the youth of today to aspire be great footballers, or overpaid celebs' as many of those in the world cup showed?

oh yes, we have green grass again. Never thought i'd be so glad to see rain in the UK!!!!

my comment about Fernando Torres being an overpaid pretty boy was my opinion, nothing more or less but shouldn't result in personal insult and abuse, and that's why the posts were deleted. I stand by that opinion about premiership footballers, but of course don't expect everyone to agree. The wage issues are killing many clubs as reported only today.

suemac-thankyou, nothing was changed from what you read, and I agree with the rest of your post.
I just cannot understand why would anyone want to question what was good news to me.
David the two posts you made below also border on playground behaviour
Anyway somebody give him his ball back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did i miss a really intelligent adult post?
If people did not sometimes say silly things, nothing intelleigent would ever be said.
