Car Tourism is Over?

When younger we would jump in the car at the drop of a hat and take off for various places in the UK and Europe. It was a great and cheap way to get around, independent of more restrictive public transport. Car tourism is now so expensive it is no longer an option, even with shared costs. I just checked (returns): Torrevieja – Barcelona €170 + €60 tolls. Marbella €100 plus tolls. Calais €450 inc tolls; Munich €612 inc tolls and tax. Fly-Drive has got to be a no brainer. Sadly the passing of an era.
