goodstitch - Ryanair don't show Bodrum as a Stansted destination.

bobaol - you didn't mention Admin(credit card) in your earlier post.  If it's a credit card charge then get yourself a prepaid Mastercard and pay nothing.

CostaChris - agree absoultely.  It's O'Leary's game but everyone wins.  I too only take hand luggage, no priority boarding, no extras.  I don't care how the price is made up and only look at the bottom line.  It's like the "no taxes" hype.  He pays passenger departure tax of £12 per passenger to BAA just like everyone else.  Like I say, just look at the final price.

sorry, it was East midlands to Barcelona, we looked at so many flights yesterday I was getting mixed up.

The fact remains the same though, £60.00 for 20kg, Ryanair can stuff it!

Yes its all a game - Find out the rules. Abide by the rules. Get cheap flights - Simples.  Oh and as for "hold baggage charges".  All airlines would love to get everyone taking hand luggage only.  They would be able to reduce their costs further as no baggage handler fees to pay. Also which group is it that usually instigates any srikes!!!!

Further note. If apartment your booking has washing machine, do you really need take so much. If cost is so high for hold baggage, consider buying some items there and just leaving them.........

Have to admit COSTA CHRIS is right the rules are clear so no need to moan if you get stopped with you oversized bag, the cheap flights are there to take advantage and yes use the pre paid card, i have a family of 4 and saves me a fortune on booking fees used to use the electron card but that soon changed, you have to be as smart as mr ryan air and keep up with the rules. i have had many bargain flights and quick turn around, yes sometimes we al get deleyed but all airlines are the same

Just checked myself out of curiosity as we're thinking of going to Barcelona and, departing from Malaga during July and August, it is €64.80 per 20kg bag! We won't need to carry so much luggage but, even so, that's pretty steep! Might just as well take the car!

Monarch 1st Class??

Perhaps Rod means Extra Leg Room, Pre-paid Meal, Champagne Deal, even to book online you need to pre-book the "cheap seats'' like all other low-cost carriers at an extra cost

I use Moarch a lot  of the time beacuse their flight times suit and booked at certain times offer great value for money, but hardly 1st class!!

Perhaps the word "scheduled'' dazzles?

Easy-Jet and Ryanair both offer superb value just concentrate on the bottom line, the reason stowed luggage is so expensive is they just don't want to take it

£255.00 for Monarch before bags which adds a further £60 to the total on our June/July holiday dates but with Ryanair  £179.00 in total before bags £299 with 2 bags in the hold. Have to add that the prices on Ryanair for the same dates if booked today are just £91.96 return for 2 people before any add on's.

Don't you just get seat numbers with Monarch and with Ryanair an undignified scramble for seats-but once on whats the difference?

If all airlines start to charge £60.00 for a 20kg bag, where does that leave  the family holiday that costs a fortune anyway if your kids are around 16?.  Pure bloody greed that deserves no respect, by an airline that is already making a  fantastic profit.

Goodstitch - it's still coming up £30 for a 20kg bag.  £60 for the round trip NOT for the single trip.  Same as Pitby's €64 (£60) round trip for his Barcelona flight.  (Doesn't mention that the flights themselves are only €18 each way).  But it's still a lot of money and other posters are right.  Ryanair don't want people with loads of hold luggage.

yes I meant £60.00 return, so £240.00 baggage for a family of four for 1 x 20gk bag each!   I know the flights are often good value, but not always. Summer flights to Turkey in particular have gone through the roof and for the first time in years I found a package deal better value due to all the add-ons that the airlines charge + transfers. Easy jet price for same luggage is £80,00 total return as they are doing an offer. Flight prices about the same for the dates/destination I looked at yesterday.

This scam of charging 50 quid a bag is mad wasnt that idiot from Ryanair thinking of charging more for the size of person and a £1 to go the loo ?

ps Monarch is like first class compared to the cheapos 4d and 4e are the best saets they do cost 17.50 more each way but that extra 6 inches makes all the difference we even had a free seat next to us last time and this coupled with the Barclays Premier airport lounge makes for an enjoyable experience we dont have champagne but the meals are nice and we even had a bag 27kgs coming back and didnt get charged so Happy Days.

We did fly with easy jet once a few years ago and people were fighting to get a seat and one person got there bag taken off them at the gate it was mad definately not worth the hassle for saving a few pounds of our worthless currency

Just Booked Ryanair, May £45.73 + £1.50 admin charge to Caxton FX and October £52.98 + £1.50 admin charge to Caxton FX. All Return NEMA to Murcia

I stick to the 10-kilo hand baggage.

I don't even look at the other so-called Budget airlines.

If we are not complaining about Air Fares. It’s Car Hire. What a great nation we British are.

If you are a regular visitor like myself. Buy a Car. Leave it at the Airport.

Anything I need over The 10 Kilo. I purchase in the Shops or on the market in Spain.

Anybody staying at my place I recommend the same.

Keeping your place well equipped and up to date allows for this .

Simple as that.

Hi,  We have for several journeys in the last few years flown Flybe, The service is great. the fair has increased for May but because we are flying later in the year. they fly from Southampton which is a great airport. I gave up Ryanair after so many add-ons. Sadly Monarch don't fly from Southampton which is my favorite airport. Small and quick service, everybody flying seems to be happy even when returning to the UK.  HURN, Bournmouth is another small easy airport but don't have the flight we look for.

good to see positive reports from Flybe and Monarch. We found BMI baby ok last year. I will always avoid Ryanair now in future unless they are much cheaper.  I would like to see a price that includes all tax, airport charges and 20gk of luggage included in the price, with an option to opt out of baggage charge. That way we could compare without hidden costs. Some airlines are starting to do that and they are always the one's I would look at first.

Then Flybe are the Airline to go with as that is what they do. They also have several times you can choose to fly, being over 65 we both like to fly during the day so that when we arrive in Spain we have no problem with the grocery shopping & transport to our Spanish Home.

I'm a Monarch fan and agree they do feel like first class after Ryanair. As they fly from Manchester which is the closest airport for me they can often work out good value as expensive taxi fares or car parking can also add to the cost of a trip. The aircraft are nice and clean, the cabin crew smart and pleasant, none of those awful scratchcard announcements and all the other loud rubbish Ryaniar insist on infliciting on the poor fare paying passenger, and I arrive at my destination far less frazzled. Have used Ryanair frequently in the past to and from many destinations but have now given up with them, I just don't have the stamina anymore and can't cope with them.  But we all have a choice ...............happy flying!
