It isn't just the British
The Comments |
Britons who settle in Spain are often criticised for refusing to integrate; mix with the Spanish and learn their language. It may be true to an extent but they are not unique in preferring their own kind and their own ways. The big debate in Europe is the mobility of workers migrating to other countries in the union. Here is a small paragraph I picked up on the Polish experience:
“In many cases, the expectation that they (Polish emigrés) will be able to return with an excellent command of English also turns out to be unfounded, because Poles living abroad tend to socialise with their compatriots and they rarely have time for language courses.”
So insularity is not a British disease at all.

Who said it was?
Perhaps Brits seem to get more criticism than other nationalities here simply because there are more of them so they're more noticeable.
