Hi,

I am looking for some advice please, we have an apartment in Elviria, Costa Del Sol and for 3 years everything has been great. However last summer we had an invasion of Cockroaches-they only really affected 1 of the bedrroms and sometimes we had 15-20 everyday. We were out for the 6 week summer holiday and we spent lots of time trying to identify where they were getting in as never had a problem before and only ever saw them in my sons room.

We were advised to fumigate the room with some expensive spray which we did frequently after which we would find 10-15 dead!

My Inlaws were out in the apartment in May and only really saw the odd one (always in the same room) and suspected they were coming via the shutter mechanism in the spare bedroom, This would make sense as the cockroaches always seemed to appear when we had closed the shutter at night and as my In laws weren't using this room they hadn't closed it.

I have just had an email from a lady who has just returned after staying in our apartment-all was great apart from  a mini invasion of cockroaches in my sons bedroom, I am at my wits end as I am absolutely petrified of them and I'm now dreading our summer holiday!

The pest control people have put bombs down the drains etc and it appears only us have got a problem (most just occasionaly get the odd 1 or 2)

I think we need to get somebody out who can take the shutter housing mechanism off the wall and see if there is a hole that they are getting in through as we have explored every other route!!

Can anybody help in pointing me in the right direction for a company that could perhaps investigate this for us-not sure if we need a shutter company/pest control/builder or all of these!!

Really need to get it sorted asap and any help/advice would be great

Thankyou

Hello Deli:

First thing is to buy a few "roach-coaches". A company which makes "Raid" produces them.  A sort of small circular tin with apertures.  Then there is an aparatus which produces sound or some kind of ultrasound at a certain pitch, at a certain pitch (you plug it in) and I promise you, there will be no more cockroaches.  Repulsive creatures!!

Also this solution is far less expensive than getting companies in to do the job.

Patricia

And the contact for the electronic devices.  I won't even put up the link as the photos of the creatures are so disgusting

Thankyou Patricia-I've had a look at those and will pick some up when I'm next in Spain, It will definitely be a cheaper option thankyou for your advice.

I have spray and use frequently and ensure there is no rubbish or food left out-but this doesn't stop them from coming in! They definitely aren't coming from the bathroom its the bedrrom shutter that is causing the problem as we can actually here them between the ceiling of our apartment and the floor of the apartment above us.

Thankyou Karen x

Have you checked to see if they are using the mattress as a 'breeding' area?

We have-I moved all the furniture out to another room and left the room empty for a few days, each night I sprayed the room and each morning lots of dead ones. I am convinced the mechanism that holds the shutters has made a hole in the ceiling and that is there entry point!

campana has the answer that worked for us!!

We have a duplex house and dreaded going down each morning and switching the light on. Although we have never had as many cockroaches as you have experienced, more like two or three, nowadays, we sometimes find the odd one, on its back, dead or close to dying.

One plug-in downstairs and one upstairs did the trick. I think the unit emits a piercing sound that literally kills the stinking things.

Also, we have a beautiful British Blue shorthair cat, 10 months old, that sleeps in the galleria at the back of the house. As soon as I let him in, in the morning, he goes straight to every room in the house and miaows if he locates anything. Great stuff!!
