Do Spain use party lines? I had a weird experience tonight when my internet was very flaky for about 1/2 hour. The home phone rang 3 times which I answered. When I answered, there were two people in deep conversation. I thought party lines were a thing of the 70s (in the UK anyway) and crossed lines are virtually unheard of. I didn't think adsl could be provisioned on a line where other services were present? The other people didn't seem to be able to hear me, although they did stop speaking once I said hello a couple of times.

Confusion reigns and I will have to ring Telefonica tomorrow.

Mark

The wire in your ADSL can sometimes act as an antenna and pick up landlines and, indeed, mobile phones.  Both Orange and Vodaphone had a numbe of complaints about this in the London area just recently.

The filter on your line is supposed to stop telephones interfering with ADSL but sometimes the wire can attenuate incoming signals.  If this happens on a regular basis and isn't due to a "perfect storm" (ie, their filter not working correcty, your wire attenuating the frequence into AF and your filter re-tuning at the same time) then you should contact your provider.
